One of the Leewright boys passed away, sometime ago, but I can't find the information on which one. I should have it and will keep looking.

There are a couple more of my relatives buried in the Busby Cemetary than what are on the headstone listing.

Thomas Roberts is listed. His dad was Joseph Roberts. There used to be a headstone for Joseph, but it hasn't been seen for years. The Roberts familiy used to have some knowledge of how to locate Joseph's grave in relaton to Thomas, but I forgot how that went. The other Roberts was a still born baby boy. His grave is "at the feet of the old mens' graves."

My dad was Dallas Roberts of Howard, KS. His dad was Willis Roberts of Howard. Willis's dad was Thomas. My name is Alan.

I wonder who has the burial records for that cemetery, like a cemetery association. They would have records that would answer questions like these. There is also a big peony bush by our family graves, the Reynolds, there. For years we have thought there was a grave there but have never been able to spot a stone by digging around in the bush.

Busby (Painterhood) Cemetery
Elk County, Kansas
Sec. 12 east of Howard, KS
Lat: 37°27'35"N, Lon: 96°02'34"W

Contributed by Charles E. Templer, Apr 11, 2001 [chartemp@aol.com].
Total records = 74.

Originally read by Mildred Martin on May 27, 1982. As annotated by staff of Elk County courthouse and this transcriber.

At the time I visited this cemetery in the summer of 2000, the gravestones had continued to deteriorate and some were down or missing. The cemetery is on a dirt road going west from Buxton, KS towards Howard, KS and both my wife and I have relatives buried here.

This transcription was prepared from the typed listing in the Elk County, KS, courthouse on which annotations had been made and to which I have added my comments.

Scotty, if you contact Tony Signer at Country Side Funeral Home at Howard, Tony can probably tell you who keeps the Busby Cemetery Records. I know that there have been some markers lost, stolen or disappeared there over the years.Don and Lois Morgan spent many days and hours cataloging the cemteries in Elk County, I really appreciate them and all of their work.

Hello Alan, great to see you on the forum. Hope your Mother is doing great, give her our love. Alan, your mention of your dad and granddad brings back great memories. Your Grandad used to let the kids ride on his wagon, when he was driving his team, I think they were a Grey team. I remember when your dad put in his first leather repair shop in the building where Innes cafe had been. The last I knew there was a laundry there, I am not sure what is there now, it would be next door to Sues soap shop. Then he moved to mainstreet where Hubble and Shell had been in an appliance store. In those days of hard times your dad could keep a worn out pair of boots or shoes going forever. You have some great family heritage on both sides.
