Janet Harrington

  William Strachan was born in St. Louis, Missouri, January 10, 1840 died near Howard, Kansas, January 18, 1911, age 71 years and 8 days.

He was a soldier in the Union army, a member of the 60th Ill. Regiment.

After the war he came to Kansas, locating at Howard in 1872.  June 14, 1883, he was married to Mrs. Ella V. McDonald.  He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, six brothers and two sisters.  Of the brothers, Walter and Lewis live in Howard, Kansas; Alexander Campbeil, Lilncoln, and james live in Chicago, Illinois.  The sisters, Mrs. Jane McFelea in Spokane, Washington, and Mrs. Jas. Bush in Wayne, Nebraska.

Besides relatives, Mr. Strachan leaves a host of mourning friends.

The day Mr. Strachan died, he called for the Bible and Mr. Kachel read and talked with him.  He left the assurance that his peace was made with God and that he was ready to go.

The funeral services were held at the M. E. church, Friday January 20, at 2:30 p.m., conducted by Rev. T. A. Nichols, assisted by Rev. J. E. Deggendorf, of the Presbyterian church.
