Sunday, October 2, was M. F. Russell;s birthday, and he admits being 75 years old---but he sure doesn't look it.  His wife and the near kin organized a grand surprise for him in honor of the day.   He was tricked into staying home long enough for his dear people to assemble and spread a wonderful dinner, and all who have been so fortunate as to eat the superb cooking of Phoebe Russell and Ella Dobyns will know what they can do in the way of a feast when they spread themselves.  So it goes without saying that the dinner was bounteous as well as excellent.

The following were present:  Mr. and Mrs. M. F. Russell, Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Dobyns, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Russell and baby son Weldon E., Dr. and Mrs. W. O. Russell and two daughters, Virginia Ruth and May Jeanette, of Sedan; Mr. and Mrs. Seymour Bewley, Mr. and Mrs. Morris Bewley and two sons; Calvin and Morris, Jr., of Fall River, Mr. and Mrs. Albert criger and children, Louise, Carl, and Jim; Wm. Waple of ElDorado, Mrs. Albert Criger, Sr., and Levi Viets, of Howard.

Mike Russell was the happiest man in Howard, and says he is determined to live at least 25 years more and enjoy a centennial anniversary dinner and he is sure Phoebe and Ella will also live to cook it for him.
