He joined with three brothers, Alfred, Roy, and Orval.  He attended a one-room country school through the 8th grade and attended high school in Moline, Kansas, graduating in 1941.  Harrison married Cydna Briggs, and to this union two children, David and Robert, were born.  The couple later divorced.  While living in rural Moline, he farmed and helped out his father.  After moving to Winfield, he was employed several different places until being hired by the Winfield Police Department on June 16, 1953.  Starting as a "walking" policeman, checking doors, he worked his way up to Captain, retiring in 1975 with 22 years of service.

On Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1965, he was united in marriage to Patricia Dillard.  They were joined by another son, Scott.  After retiring from the Police Department, he was employed as a manager of the Klepper's Service Station on the north end of Winfield.  After the station was closed, he went to work for Harmon Level Construction.  He would then work for Hittle Services.  He enjoyed fishing, gardening, picking up and cracking gallons of pecans, and helping out a lot of others with odd jobs and lots of mowing yards.

His family includes his wife, Pat McNown, of the home; his sons, David McNown and wife, Faye of Bonneau, South Carolina, Robert McNown and wife, Tami of Winfield, Kansas, and Scott McNown and wife, Andrea of Winfield, Kansas; his ten grandchildren, Steven McNown, Bryan McNown, Kevin McNown, Justin McNown, Josh McNown, Scotty McNown, Brittney McNown, Jordan McNown, Jamie Dillard, and Alisha Montgomery; his daughter-in-law, Melodie Dillard; and his thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.  In addition to his parents, Harrison was preceded in death by three brothers; his daughter-in-law, Sue McNown; and his stepson, James Dillard.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Miles Funeral Service, 4001 E. 9th Avenue in Winfield, Kansas 67156.  Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made in Harrison's name for the Winfield Food Pantry or the charity of the donor's choice.  Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
