Esther "Mardelle" Hon, 90, of Neodesha, Kansas, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2012 at Golden Living Center in Neodesha, Kansas.  She was born in Climax, Kansas to Pete and Eva (Stilwell) Broddle.  

Esther Mardelle graduated as Valedictorian from Severy High School in Severy, Kansas and was married to her husband, Harold S. Hon, on July 27, 1938 in Piedmont, Kansas.  The couple moved from Valley Center, Kansas to the Neodesha area in 1958 where they farmed.  Esther Mardelle was a member of the First Christian Church in Neodesha, a member of the Eastern Star, and loved to quilt with the women of the church.

She is survived by four children:  Patricia J. Davis of Shell Knob, Missouri, Ronnie Joe Hon of Oro Valley, Arizona, Jerry Lee Hon of Keller, Texas, and Deborah Springer of Independence, Kansas; and ten grandchildren and thirteen grandchildren.  She was preceded by her husband, Harold, on December 21, 2005; one sister; and three brothers.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Loran Fawcett Chapel.  A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 20, 2012 at the First Christian Church, 702 Wisconsin Street, Neodesha, Kansas with Dr. Don Railsback officiating.  The family will greet visitors on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church.  Private burial will take place at a later date.  The family suggested memorial contributions to the First Christian Church of Neodesha.  Memorials may be left with the funeral home at 704 Indiana, Neodesha, Kansas 66757.  To leave a special message for the family, visit www.penwellgabel.com.
