Martha "Irene" McClellan, age 101, a resident of Howard Twilight Manor in Howard, Kansas and formerly of Glade, Kansas, passed away Thursday, January 19, 2012.  She was born on September 10, 1910 in Schuyler County, Missouri, the daughter of John Wilson and Susan Viola (Miller) Simerl. 

Irene graduated from Downing, Missouri High School and went on to take Normal Training and taught school before marrying Harold R. McClellan on September 28, 1929 in Hannibal, Missouri.  To this union was born one son and two daughters.  They lived on a farm near Logan and later bought a farm south of Glade, Kansas.

Irene was a homemaker, cooked for the Glade Grade School, was an Avon dealer, and an independent cattle and wheat farmer after the death of her husband in 1961.  Irene was a member of the Glade United Methodist Church and an associate member of the Moline United Methodist Church in Moline, Kansas.   She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and helping care for her grandchildren.  Irene moved to Moline, Kansas in 1979 to be near her daughter and husband.

Irene is survived by one daughter, Marilyn Brace and her husband, David of Moline, Kansas; nine grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold McClellan; one son, Robert E. McClellan; one daughter, Nelda L. Nickel; one grandson, Robert A. McClellan; three brothers; and four sisters.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 23, 2012 at the Fairview Cemetery in Phillipsburg, Kansas.  Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, January 22, 2012 at Countryside-Zimmerman Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, Kansas 67349.  Family suggests contributions be made to the Moline United Methodist Church and may be sent to the funeral home.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.countrysidefh.com.  Arrangements are under the direction of Countryside-Zimmerman Funeral in Howard, Kansas.
