A COUNTRY CHRISTMAS

Christmas was always a special time
In the country so long ago
Firelight danced on windowpanes
As hearts began to glow.
As a child, I yet remember
Gathering around the tree
Grandpa's old time stories
Filled every face with glee.

S avory smells drifted through the air
In a heavenly atmosphere
Voices cracked with happiness
As Christmas day drew near.

Homemade pies aligned the shelves
Made by Grandma's aging hands
And something spiritual touched us all
As the Yuletide swept the land.

T' was an ole fashioned country Christmas
Blessed with lots of Christmas snow
Sleigh rides for the young at heart
And hanging mistletoe.

Now my heart fills up with gladness
As the season brings its cheer
When these thoughts of mine go back in time
To recapture yesteryear.

On Christmas Eve Luke 2:15-16

This eve, I wanted so to see my Jesus
To lean upon His knee
Look into His lovely face
And see Him smile at me

I wished that I could hug Him
And listen to His words
Hold His loving hand in mine
And thank Him for His birth

But, with me so very far away
I can't imagine that will be
So right where I am today I'll say
"Thank You Jesus" 'pon my knee

Luke 2:15-16 (KJV)
And it came to pass, as the angels
were gone away from them into heaven,
the shepherds said one to another,
Let us now go even unto Bethlehem,
and see this thing which is come to pass,
which the Lord hath made known unto us.
And they came with haste, and found Mary,
and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger

Christmas Blessings

No room in the inn on a cold December morn
In a lowly stable the Lord Jesus was born
In Bethlehem early on Christmas Day
The shepherds found Jesus asleep on the hay.

Jesus, a Christmas blessing from God above
Filled the hearts of the people with love
At that time the world was in need
Of a Christmas blessing indeed.

Father, Thy Christmas blessings are a delight
The Bethlehem star makes our night so bright
Thank Thee for all Christmas blessings today
And the precious gift of Jesus to lead the way.

Luke 2:12 (KJV)
And this shall be a sign unto you;
Ye shall find the babe wrapped
in swaddling clothes,
lying in a manger.

May the spirit of CHRISTmas take flight
beneath Bethlehem's star so bright
and may CHRISTmas Blessings fill
your heart with delight.

Today, I want to make a difference.

Remembering Back

I still remember of CHRISTmas' gone by
So many, many long years ago,
How I longed for CHRISTmas day
And always wished it could stay.

I remember as a little girl
My dad would go and cut a tree,
My mom would bake and decorate
For all the children to see.

We would rise early on CHRISTmas morn
And take our gift from the tree,
We would get candy, grapes or an apple
A book, crayons, or a pencil you see.

Today we remember the gift in our lives
God gave His precious son to the world,
He came to love, to teach and then,
He gave His all to free us from sin.

CHRISTmas had started a long time ago
God gave His son for us to love and know,
A spirit of giving goes back to His birth
Now God's love and peace still fills the earth.

Jesus is better than santa to me
He gave His best so I could be free,
The Spirit of Jesus will always be
He'll live in my heart for all Eternity!

Today we remember God's precious son
He suffered and died, the sinless one,
He came to love, heal and to save,
He waits for us with plenteous grace.

As you 'wake on CHRISTmas morning
And look beneath your tree,
You will find "Three Packages"
Sent to you by me.

The first package is Happiness
For it's what I wish for you;
May your CHRISTmas be merry,
Your New Year happy too.

The second package is Peace...
Peace of mind in all you do
For peace within your heart

The third package is filled
with Hope and Love to spare,
Hope in God to guide you,
And Love for you to share.

THE OLD PATHS

I liked the old paths, when
Moms were at home.
Dads were at work.
Brothers went into the army.
And sisters got married BEFORE having children!

Crime did not pay;
Hard work did;
And people knew the difference.

Moms could cook;
Dads would work;
Children would behave.

Husbands were loving;
Wives were supportive;
And children were polite.

Women wore the jewelry;
And Men wore the pants.

Women looked like ladies;
Men looked like gentlemen;
And children looked decent.

People loved the truth,
And hated a lie.

They came to church to get IN,
Not to get OUT!

Hymns sounded Godly;
Sermons sounded helpful;
Rejoicing sounded normal;
And crying sounded sincere.

Cursing was wicked;
Drugs were for illness.

The flag was honored;
America was beautiful;
And God was welcome!

We read the Bible in public;
Prayed in school;
And preached from house to house.

To be called an American was worth dying for;
To be called an American was worth living for;
To be called a traitor was a shame!

I still like the old paths the best!

Today, I want to make a difference.
Here I am Lord, use me!

May I walk in the footsteps of Jesus
Can I talk to people about His life
May I walk in the footsteps of Jesus
Can I be blessed with His touch
Is Heaven very far, is it beyond the stars

May I walk in the footststeps of Jesus
I can feel His loving care
May I walk in the footsteps of Jesus
For He is everywhere

May I touch Jesus hands and feet
Will there be blood on His body I can see
How can I thank Him, for loving
and caring for you and me

May I walk in the footsteps of Jesus
I am His child, you know
Will He welcome me in Heaven
I will never want to let go

May I walk in the footsteps of Jesus
I can feel His light within
May I see the blue eyes of my Savior
Will He take away my pain and sorrow
I want Him by my side

May I walk in the footsteps of Jesus
Because of Him, we will never die.

THE CANDY CANE LEGEND

Look at the Candy Cane
What do you see?
Stripes that are red
Like the blood shed for me

White is for my Savior
Who's sinless and pure!
"J" is for Jesus My Lord, that's for sure!

Turn it around
And a staff you will see
Jesus my shepherd
Was born for Me!

Many years ago, a candy maker wanted to make a candy at Christmas time
that would serve as a witness to his Christian faith.
He wanted to incorporate several symbols for the birth, ministry
and death of Jesus. He began with a stick of pure white hard candy;
white to symbolize the Virgin Birth and the sinless nature of Jesus;
hard to symbolize the solid rock, the foundation of the Church;
firmness to represent the promise of God.

The candymaker made the candy in the form of a "J"
to represent the name of Jesus, who came to earth as our Savior.
He thought it could also represent the staff of the Good Shepherd,
with which he reached down into the ditches of the world to lift out
the fallen lambs who, like all sheep, have gone astray.

Thinking that the candy was somewhat plain, the candymaker
stained it with red stripes. He used three small stripes
to show the stripes of the scourging Jesus received,
by which we are healed. The large red stripe was for the
blood shed by Christ on the cross so that we could have the
promise of eternal life. Unfortunately, the candy became known
as a candy cane - a meaningless decoration seen at Christmas time.
But the true meaning is still there for those who have
eyes to see and ears to hear.

Matthew 2:8 (KJV)
And he sent them to Bethlehem,
and said, Go and search
diligently for the young child;
and when ye have found him,
bring me word again, that I
may come and worship him also.
