Kenneth Charles Miller passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2005 at his home south of Grenola, Kansas.  He was 52 years of age.  Kenny was born on September 10, 1952 at Winfield, Kansas to Albert Homer, Jr. and Grace Caroline (Bennitt) Miller.  After graduating from high school, Kenny completed a degree at Independence Community College in 1972 and received a Bachelor degree in criminal justice from Wichita State University in 1975.

On February 14, 1982, he married Byrdee Zell (Lewis) Stephens at Grenola, Kansas and they made their home in the Grenola.  Kenny was employed as a shartage administrator at Boeing Aircraft Company in Wichita.  He has also served as an Elk County Deputy Sheriff since 1981.

Kenny was currently a First Responder for the Elk County Emergency Medical Service and served as Grenola City Fire Chief for several years.  He also served as a security guard at West Elk High School in Howard.  Kenny was a former member of the Grenola City Council and was instrumental in establishing the water tower and water treatment system during his term as Mayor of Grenola.

He enjoyed playing softball and has been active in the youth baseball program at Grenola for many years.  Kenny was a deacon of the Grenola Christian Church and enjoyed working with the church youth groups.  He has recently served as church treasurer.

He is survived by his wife, Byrdee; sons, Brian Stephens of Grenola and Kevin Miller of Burden; his step-mother, Pansy Franks of Grenola; his brothers, Donald Miller and Robert Miller both of Grenola; a sister, Diana Foiles of Lyndon, Kansas and two grandchidlren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2005 at the Grenola Community Building with Pastor Wallace Wartick of the Grenola Christian Church officating.  Wanda Mills will be the pianist and the congregation will sing "The Wonder of It All", "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms", "I Will Sing the Wondrous Story" and "Amazing Grace".  One of Kenny's favorite songs, "The Altar" by Ray Boltz, will be played.  The casket bearers will be Bill Barnard, Jewell Dalton, Charlie Ellils, Ken Liebau, John Logsdon and Fred Reeves.  The honorary casket bearers will be Ronnie Allison, Perry Fulsom, Lynn kelly, Dean Keplinger, Duana Kessinger, Josh Kessinger, Tom Kessinger, Don Land, Jack Perrigo and Dave Wolfe.  Interment will be held in the Greenlawn Cemetery at Grenola.  Memorials have been established with the Grenola Christian Church and Hospice Care of Kansas.  Contributions may be left with the funeral home.  The funeral arrangements are being made with the  Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.
