The following are brief histories of each MLB team, listed in order of winners of the most World Series and otherwise alphabetically.

The New York Yankees, based in the Bronx, N.Y., participate in Major League Baseball (MLB) and are a member of the American League East Division. The Yankees were founded as the Baltimore Orioles in 1901 and moved to New York in 1903 as the New York Highlanders. They became the New York Yankees in 1913. In 2009, the Yankees started playing home games at the New Yankee Stadium, which was built next to the original Yankee Stadium. The club has 27 World Series Championships (1923, 1927, 1928, 1932, 1936, 1937, 1938, 1939, 1941, 1943, 1947, 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1956, 1958, 1961, 1962, 1977, 1978, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2009).

The St. Louis Cardinals, based in St. Louis, Mo., participate in Major League Baseball (MLB) and are a member of the National League Central Division. The Cardinals were founded in 1892 as the St. Louis Browns and changed their name to the St. Louis Perfectos only for one year before becoming the St. Louis Cardinals in 1900. Since 2006, they have played their home games at the New Busch Stadium. The club has 10 World Series Championships (1926, 1931, 1934, 1942, 1944, 1946, 1964, 1967, 1982, 2006).

The Oakland Athletics, based in Oakland, Calif., participate in Major League Baseball (MLB) and are a member of the American League West Division. The Athletics were founded as the Philadelphia Athletics in 1901, then became the Kansas City Athletics in 1955 and finally the Oakland Athletics in 1968. Since 1968, the Athletics have played their home games at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum previously known as McAfee Coliseum and Network Associates Coliseum. The club has won nine World Series Championships (1910, 1911, 1913, 1929, 1930, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1989).

The Boston Red Sox, based in Boston, Mass., participate in Major League Baseball (MLB) and are a member of the American League East Division. The Red Sox were founded as the Boston Somersets in 1901, then became the Boston Pilgrims in 1903 and finally the Boston Red Sox in 1907. Since 1912, the Red Sox have played home games at Fenway Park. The club has seven World Series Championships (1903, 1912, 1915, 1916, 1918, 2004, 2007).

The Los Angeles Dodgers, based in Los Angeles, Calif., participate in Major League Baseball (MLB) and are a member of the National League West Division. The Dodgers were founded in 1890 as the Brooklyn Bridegrooms. While in Brooklyn, they were also known as the Brooklyn Superbas from 1899-1910, the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1911-1913 and again from 1932-195 and the Robins from 1914-1931. They moved to Los Angeles and became the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1958. Since 1962, they have played their home games at Dodger Stadium. The club has won six World Championships (1955, 1959, 1963, 1965, 1981, 1988).

The San Francisco Giants, San Francisco, Calif., participate in Major League Baseball (MLB) and are a member of the National League West Division. The Giants were founded as the New York Giants in 1883 before becoming the San Francisco Giants in 1958. Since 2000, they have played their home games at AT&T Park. The club has won six World Series Championships (1905, 1921, 1922, 1933, 1954, 2010).

The Cincinnati Reds, based in Cincinnati, Ohio, participate in Major League Baseball (MLB) and are a member of the National League Central Division. The Reds were founded as the Cincinnati Red Stockings in 1876. They changed the name to the Cincinnati Reds for the first time in 1878. They were briefly known as the Cincinnati Redlegs from 1953 to 1958 and returned to Reds once again in 1959. Since 2003, they have played their home games at the Great American Ball Park. The club has five World Series Championships (1919, 1940, 1975, 1976, 1990).

The Pittsburgh Pirates, based in Pittsburgh, Pa., participate in Major League Baseball (MLB) and are a member of the National League Central Division. The Pirates were founded in 1887 as the Pittsburgh Alleghenys and changed their name to the Pirates in 1891. Since 2001, they have played their home ages at PNC Park. The club has won five World Series Championships (1909, 1925, 1960, 1971, 1979).

The Detroit Tigers, based in Detroit, Mich., participate in Major League Baseball (MLB) and are a member of the American League Central Division. The Tigers were founded in 1901. Since 2000, the Tigers have played home games at Comerica Park. The club has won four World Series Championships (1935, 1945, 1968, 1984).

The Atlanta Braves, based in Atlanta, Ga., participate in Major League Baseball (MLB) and are a member of the National League East Division. The Braves were founded in Boston as the Boston Red Caps in 1876. While in Boston, the club was also known as the Boston Beaneaters (1883-1906), the Boston Doves (1907-1910), the Boston Rustlers in 1977, the Boston Braves (1912-1935 and 1941-1952) and the Boston Bees (1936-1940). They became the Milwaukee Braves in 1953 and finally moved to Atlanta in 1966. Since 1997, they have played their home games at Turner Field. The club has one three World Series Championships (1914, 1957, 1995).

The Baltimore Orioles, based in Baltimore, Md., participate in Major League Baseball (MLB) and are a member of the American League East Division. The Orioles were founded as the Milwaukee Brewers in 1901, then became the St. Louis Browns in 1902 and finally the Baltimore Orioles in 1954. Since 1992, the Orioles have played home games at Camden Yards. The club has three World Series Championships (1966, 1970, 1983).

The Chicago White Sox, based in Chicago, Ill., participate in Major League Baseball (MLB) and are a member of the American League Central Division. The White Sox were founded as the Chicago White Stockings in 1901 and in 1904 they became the White Sox. Since 1991, the White Sox have played home games at U.S. Cellular Field, previously known as the New Comiskey Park. The club has won three World Series Championships (1906, 1917, 2005)

The Minnesota Twins, based in Minneapolis, Minn., participate in Major League Baseball (MLB) and are a member of the American League Central Division. The Twins were founded as the Washington Senators in 1901 and became the Minnesota Twins in 1961. They played played home games at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome from 1982 to 2009 before moving into their current home at Target Field in 2010. The club has won three World Series Championships (1924, 1987, 1991).

The Chicago Cubs, based in Chicago, Ill., participate in Major League Baseball (MLB) and are a member of the National League Central Division. The Cubs were founded as the Chicago White Stockings in 1876, then became the Chicago Colts in 1890 and the Chicago Orphans in 1898. They finally settled on the Cubs in 1902. Since 1916, the Cubs have played their home games at Wrigley Field. The club has won two World Championships (1907,1908).

The Cleveland Indians, based in Cleveland, Ohio, participate in Major League Baseball (MLB) and are a member of the American League Central Division. The Indians were founded as the Cleveland Blues in 1901, then became the Cleveland Naps in 1905 and finally the Cleveland Indians as of 1915. Since 1994, the Indians have played home games at Progressive Field, which was known as Jacobs Field prior to April of 2008. The club has won two World Series Championships (1920, 1948).

The Florida Marlins, based in Miami, Fla., participate in Major League Baseball (MLB) and are a member of the National League East Division. The Marlins were founded in 1993. Since their inception, they have played home games at Sun Life Stadium, which has gone through several name changes. It was previously known as Dolphin Stadium but was originally called Joe Robbie Stadium. It was Pro Player Stadium from 1996 through 2004 and Land Shark Stadium for the 2009 season. In 2010, it became Sun Life Stadium. The club has won two World Series Championships (1997, 2003).

The New York Mets, based in Flushing, N.Y., participate in Major League baseball (MLB) and are a member of the National League East Division. The Mets were founded in 1962. The Mets started playing home games at Citi Field in 2009. They played at Shea Stadium from 1964-2008. The club has won two World Series Championships (1969,1986).

The Philadelphia Phillies, based in Philadelphia, Pa., participate in Major League Baseball (MLB) and are a member of the National League East Division. The Phillies were founded as the Philadelphia Quakers in 1883, then became known as the Phillies from 1890-1943 and the Blue Jays from 1944-1945 before returning to the Phillies in 1946. Since 2004, they have played their home games at Citizens Bank Park. The club has won two World Series Championships (1980,2008).

The Toronto Blue Jays, based in Toronto, Ont., participate in Major League Baseball (MLB) and are a member of the American League East Division. The Jays were founded in 1977. Since 1989, the Jays have played home games at Rogers Centre, originally known as SkyDome. The club has won two World Series Championships (1992, 1993).

The Arizona Diamondbacks, based in Phoenix, Ariz., participate in Major League Baseball (MLB) and are a member of the National League West Division. The Diamondbacks were founded in 1998 and have played at Chase Field since their inception. The club has won one World Series Championship (2001).

The Kansas City Royals, based in Kansas City, Mo., participate in Major League Baseball (MLB) and are a member of the American League Central Division. The Royals were founded in 1969 and since 1973, they have played their home games at Kauffman Stadium. The club has won one World Series Championship (1985).

The Los Angeles Angels, based in Anaheim, Calif., participate in Major League Baseball (MLB) and are a member of the American League West Division. The Angels were founded in 1961, but were known as the California Angels (1965-1996) and the Anaheim Angels (1997-2004) before returning to their original name. Since 1966, the Angels have played their home games at Angel Stadium. The club has won one World Series Championship (2002).

The Losers...

The Colorado Rockies, based in Denver, Colo., participate in Major League Baseball (MLB) and are a member of the National League West Division. The Rockies were founded in 1993. Since 1995, they have played their home games at Coors Field. The club has not won a World Series.

The Houston Astros, based in Houston, Texas, participate in Major League Baseball (MLB) and are a member of the National League Central Division. The Astros were founded as the Houston Colt .45's in 1962 before changing their name to the Houston Astros in 1965. Since 2000, they have played their home games at Minute Maid Park. The club has not won a World Series.

The Milwaukee Brewers, based in Milwaukee, Wis., participate in Major League Baseball (MLB) and are a member of the National League Central Division. The Brewers were founded in 1969 in the American League as the Seattle Pilots before moving to Milwaukee as the Brewers in 1970. They switched to the National League in 1998. Since 2007, they have played their home games at Miller Park. The club has not won a World Series.

The San Diego Padres, based in San Diego, Calif., participate in Major League Baseball (MLB) and are a member of the National League West Division. The Padres were founded in 1969. Since 2004, they have played their home games at PETCO Park. The club has not won a World Series.

The Seattle Mariners, based in Seattle, Wash., participate in Major League Baseball (MLB) and are a member of the American League West Division. The Mariners were founded in 1977 and since 1999 they have played their home games at SAFECO Field. The club has not won a World Series.

The Tampa Bay Rays, based in St. Petersburg, Fla., participate in Major League Baseball (MLB) and are a member of the American League East Division. The Rays were founded as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 1998 and formally dropped the Devil and became the Tampa Bay Rays in 2008. Since their inception, the Rays have played home games at Tropicana Field, originally named the Florida Suncoast Dome and then the ThunderDome. The club has not won a World Series.

The Texas Rangers, based in Arlington, Texas, participate in Major League Baseball (MLB) and are a member of the American League West Division. The Rangers were founded as the Washington Senators in 1961 and became the Texas Rangers in 1972. Since 1994, they have played their home games at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The club has not won a World Series.

The Washington Nationals, based in Washington, D.C., participate in Major League Baseball (MLB) and are a member of the National League East Division. The Nationals were founded as the Montreal Expos in 1969, then became the Washington Nationals in 2005. Since 2008, they have played their home games at Nationals Park. The club has not won a World Series.
