Conventional conservatives are poll watchers, so their issues fluctuate with the polls and the political charges of the opposition, which is just as poll-obsessed.

......For all these reasons, conventional conservatives do not deserve to win – but may win anyway, given an opposition that is even less palatable to the American public.
