Russell E. Julian, age 81, a resident of Moline, Kansas, passed away Friday, August 19, 2011 at the Sedan City Hospital, Sedan, Kansas.  He was born on October 31, 1929 in Moline, Kanss, the son of Julie and Susan Emaline "Electa" (McGlasson) Julian.

Russell grew up in Moline, and at the age of 17 joned the U.S. Navy where he achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer, Machinist Mate, and served his county honorably for 20 years.  He was a veteran of the Korean War.  In 1976 while living in Calfornia, Russell was united in marriage to Irene Lacy.  In 1979, Russell and Irene moved back to Moline.

Russell worked as a maintenance mechanic for McDonnell Douglas in Wichita, and he also drove a school bus for West Elk School District.  He served as an Elder for the Moline Christian Church and as an Adjutant for the American Legion Ferguson Spease Post #388 in Moline.  Other memberships included Gideons International and Fleet Reserve Association.  Russell enjoyed reading, boating, horse races, and watching John Wayne movies.

He is survived by his wife, Irene, of the home; three sons, Randy Julian of Moline, Kansas, Kenneth Julian of Ponca City, Oklahoma, and David Julian of Neodesha, Kansas; one stepson, Bill Andrews of Riverside, California; one daughter, Kathy Minnick of Yorba Linda, Calfornia; one stepdaughter, Tricia Stoll of Stanford, California; one brother, Dale Julian of Sedan, Kansas; one sister, Troy Johnston of Salina, Kansas; eleven grandchildren, Laura Ramirez, Heather Kelly, Sara Julian, Erik Minnick, Mike Minnick, Brandon Julian, Angie Julian, Crystal Julian, Corina Julian, Jason Julian, and Leslie McMannis; and several great-grandchildren.  Russell was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bob Julian; and his stepfather, Arthur Julian.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at the Moline Christian Church in Moline, Kansas with Pastor Stan Rumbaugh and Pastor Gary Boles officiating.  Visitation will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at Countryside-Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard, Kansas.  Interment with military honors will be at Moline Cemetery.  Family suggests contributions be made to the American Legion Post #388 in Moline, and they may be left with the funeral home.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.countrysidefh.com.  Arrangements are under the direction of Countryside-Zimmmerman Funeral Home, 206 E. Russel was the same age as one of my brothers, they went to the Navy at the same time and both served 20 Years. I remember Russel coming to our house before and after he went to the Navy. Our sympathy and prayers are with the family.
