Wanda "Maxine" Hannegan, 89, former Independence, Kansas resident, died Friday, August 5, 2011 at the Shawnee Gardens Nursing Center in Shawnee, Kansas.  She was born June 13, 1922 at Sedan, Kansas, the daughter of Joseph Robert Urquhart and Nannie Cynthia (Avery) Urquhart.  She attended school in the Peru, Kansas area and graduated from Peru High School in 1940.

On October 28, 1945 at the Christian Church in Peru, Kansas, she was united in marriage to Roger Eugene Hannegan.  Mr. Hannegan preceded his wife in death on October 11, 2005.  

Mrs. Hannegan worked as a seamstress for many years at ABC Cleaners and did alterations for clothing stores in Independence.  She was a member of the Community Christian Church.

Survivors include a son, Bobby Hannegan of Vinita, Oklahoma; a daughter, Nancy Hannegan Purkey of Overland Park, Kansas; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.  

Funeral services were held on August 9, 2011 at the Penwell-Gabel Webb & Rodrick Chapel, 306 W. Main, Independence, Kansas 67301, with the Reverend Don Elliot, pastor of the Dewey Christian Church in Dewey, Oklahoma officiating.  Interment was at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence.  The family has suggested memorial remembrances to the Alzheimer's Foundation, and remembrances will be received at the funeral home.

The Hannegans were former residents of Howard, and their daughter, Nancy, graduated from Howard High School in 1964.  I believe they attended the Christian Church when they lived in Howard.
