I see Paul's approach as being akin to "Speak softly, but carry a big stick."

The problem, in Paul's view, is that we have the big stick, but prefer to brandish it outside our own neighborhood and wave it in other's faces.  Rather than nation building (or rather destroying and rebuilding) perhaps we should mind our own business unless and until we honestly threatened.  In that, I tend to agree.  As for defense of allies, perhaps we need to assess requests on a case by case basis as opposed to trying to be so proactive.

Ron Paul is making sense.

Forcing our "democracy" upon others has never worked.  Somehow we seem to like to continue doing that no matter who is the
Presidente.

It's the same mentality that forced the South to remain in the Union and the whole country has never been the same since then.
Which is the next country that are we going to "teach" a lesson of our democracy?

Perhaps the same country you send people to "teach" your brand of religion to. I've never been one to think we should try to change other people's culture by forcing politics OR religion down their throats when they obviously don't want it. Medical missionaries are one thing, but some groups who try to steal their children? "for their own good?" In the name of their own religion? Ick. Yes, until there is a viable threat, keep thy hypocritical nose out!
Westboro Church feels just as righteous about what they do and I hate to even be the same species, they make me so sick. They can sling Bible passages with the best of 'em.  Very sad.

IF you silence the missionaries, then they might as well close up shop.  Christ says go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.  He doesn't say go and be doctors, though that is a tool to reach others, he says to preach to them.
