Anyone know if the county consolidation plan that was introduced in the legislature in February passed? It was supposed to require the governor to appoint a several member commission by July 30, 2011, to come up with a county consolidation plan by January 1, 2013.

105 counties to 23 was one plan bandied about.

Holy cow!!  :o  And just how were they going to manage THAT?  When you can't even get small municipalities to coordinate/cooperate with each other, how are they going to manage to make a decision on which counties to cram together?

Easy, state level legislation, more people with more money, more people with more power, more outstanding citizens of the community, more legislateion. Oh, maybe great big circles of chairs> What do you think????

Why control and regulate and consolidate counties with one centrally located county seat???? Something like saving money is what is said. Right? Personally I think it is about control. More and easier control at the state level. It's probably being worked on by people who are staying hidden and don't want you to know who they are?

Sorta like getting small municipalities to coordinate/cooperate with each other and :
Unified Gov't (w/in the county) to save money and become more unified (do away with city gov't, councils
(cont.) all centrally located-one managing body) (Big Ideas's)

Some day they may start holding meetings with a facilitator and circles of chairs. Then we could share the million dollars from the wind farm with other counties by having a Unified Gov't with Montgomery, Chautauqua and two or three other counties and maybe we could beknown as section five of Montogomery County. Wouldn't that be great. But people have told me that would never happen.
But you know with the economy the way it is and all the state budget cuts and the idea it would be cheaper to operate the state with fewer counties, who knows?

County Consolidation is for a more centralized government.  Why build a larger and greater government?
To increase socialism and control.

Saving money?  Why not stop the out of control spending and eliminate state government departments?

Keep the counties intact.

Personally, I can't see where county consolidation would save anything except maybe establish satellite offices in the towns like Longton and Grenola.  That is quite a drive to get to Howard and if the county seat were moved, say to Sedan, it would be even more so.

No, I don't think county consolidation is the answer to cutting costs.

But you see Wilma it's not about travel for the citizens. It's about less government.
You could consolidate all the county's different equipment and not have to have duplicat equipment,
you could also do away with all the different courthouses and have fewer government employees.
That would mean less utilitiy bills, less salary's and less social sceurity payments and less health insurance premiums for the
the taxpayers to payout for.  Oh yea, we could also do away with all those cumbersome city councils and city ordanances and save even more money. Save more money all provided for by one unified centrally located government.

I can't see that happening either, the county's combining. It just doesn't really save cost in the long run. To maintain the amount of roads that would have to be maintained in the country, would mean hiring more people, lots more rock and also more equipment. Just doesn't even seem to make financial sense to me. Same with schools in this area. I for one would  probably homeschool if my child had to be on the bus for over an hour. Just to long of hours for my young kids, plus why?? Each government in the different counties surrounding us have different issues and problems of their own. I just don't get it, can't see how that would save a dime anywhere!!
Love everyday like it's your last on earth!!

How would satellite offices save money?  There would still be the same miles of road to maintain.  There would still be the main courthouse, maybe a new one in a more central location.  Lots of millions there.  How would consolidating counties save money?

Same questions about communities in Elk County?

Waldo, I am not sure, but I do not believe that passed. I will research it, though.
