Interesting read.
Everybody chooses their own level of accepted risk. Risks that affect the public are more stringently regulated that what a person may choose for themselves. Anyone who has taken a defensive driving course knows a a whole list of safety checks people are supposed to do before they drive their car. Of course not everyone does them, but we are supposed to. Smoke detectors are an easy passive safety device, yet there are people who die every year in fires with no early warning. I'll never understand that kind of thinking. Seat belts are mandatory most everywhere but there is still that mind set of "nobody can tell me what to do" that pervades certain personalities. Some people will die every year in what would otherwise be easily survivable accidents because of no belt.
