Donald Edwin Ames, age 95, died January 27, 2011.  Donald was born on October 28, 1915 in Moline, Kansas, the youngest child of Edwin E. and Anne L. Ames.

Donald attended Moline schools and graduated Valedictorian of Moline High School.  He then attended the College of Emporia, the University of Kansas with a B.A. degree, and Northwestern University with a Masters degree.  He was inducted into the United States Army in 1942, serving at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, Fort Lewis, Washington, Hawaii, and Japan.  After his Army discharge, he was employed by the Department of Defense in Washington, D.C. for 32 years.  Donald was very interested in the theater and travel.

Donald is survived by four nieces and one nephew:  Barbara Read Neal of Bowling Green, Kentucky, JoAnn Read Mattson of Boulder, Colorado, Patricia Ames London of Montrose, Colorado, Kay Ames Karins of Montrose, Colorado, and John Mullendore of Sugar Land, Texas.  

Cremation has taken place.  A memorial service and burial will be held at Ames Chapel Cemetery south of Moline, Kansas at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2011 with Pastor Susan Galvan officiating.  Services have been entrusted to Countryside-Zimmerman Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, Kansas 67349.
