Ethel Mae (Farnsworth) Young, 87, of Independence, Kansas died Sunday, April 10, 2011 at the Caney Nursing Center in Caney, Kansas.  She was born December 12, 1923 at Elk Falls, Kansas, the daughter of Ernest Farnsworth and Velnie V. (Bennett) Farnsworth.

She attended Elk Falls schools, graduating in 1941 from Elk Falls High School.  She was a member of the Elk Falls United Methodist Church and attended the Grace-Memorial United Methodist Church in Independence.  On August 12, 1944, she was united in marriage to Raymond G. Young.  Mr. Young preceded his wife in death in 1979.

Survivors include three sons, Ron Young of Derby, Kansas, Leroy "Cotton" Young of Leon, Kansas, and Tom Young of Ellabell, Georgia; two daughters, Marie Young of Caney, Kansas and Janie Blakemore of Tyro, Kansas;  10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.  She was preceded in death by one  grandson.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of the Penwell-Gabel Webb & Rodrick Chapel of Independence, Kansas.  Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April; 22, 2011 at the First Baptist Church of Caney, Kansas with the Rev. Dean Dewitt, pastor, officiating.

The family has suggested memorial remembrances to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, and remembrances will be received at the funeral home, Penwell-Gabel Webb & Rodrick Chapel, 306 W. Main, Independence, Kansas 67301.
