Have not heard any comments about Polk Daniels lately?  Is it open to the public yet?

I drove out this afternoon and the little lake was pretty crowded, mostly just people boating and fishing!
Dependence begets subservience and venality, suffocates the germ of virtue, and prepares fit tools for the designs of ambition.

Can you camp over night and where do you get the permits?

Call the City Office   620 374 2202
P& J's used to issue them---but that has been quite some years ago..But Kay or Becky could give you all of the information.

I LOVE Polk Daniels Lake  !!!!

THAT TELLS WHAT KIND OF LIFE YOU HAVE LIVED!

Many fond memories come from Polk Daniels Lake.  My Dad and uncle fished many hours there.  Of course, my brothers and I would tag along.  Loved the shelters.  Many family picnics and outings were enjoyed there.  Spent many hours on Elk River  setting lines.

Were those picnic shelters CCC projects? I remember them too from very long ago when we visited. It was always summer and everybody was enjoying fishing there.

I think the lake was a WPA project. All the native rock work around the lake and the shelter houses resembles many projects in that  part of the country.

Waldo posted some photos of the lake's construction about this time last year:

From there the thread evolved into a discussion about the Eaglehead and Limestone Road (west from Howard)

Deep, dark depression, excessive misery
If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all
Gloom, despair, and agony on me"

I thought I was an Ayn Randian until I decided it wasn't in my best self-interest.
