Charles Homer DeMoss, 74, of Arkansas City, Kansas, died Wednesday, March 9, 2011 surrounded by his wife and the supporting and loving staff of the Kansas Medical Center in Andover, Kansas.  Chuck was born August 28, 1936 in Grenola, Kansas to Charles and Mary Madge (Hurt) DeMoss.

He graduated from Grenola High School in 1954.  He joined the United States Air Force in 1956, serving 4 years.  Chuck married Susan Alexander on September 2, 1961 in Cedar Vale, Kansas.  The couple made their home in Arkansas City, Kansas.  He was a member of the Central Christian Church for over 45 years, serving as deacon for many years and as chairman of the Property Committee.  Chuck worked at the APCO/Total Refinery for 35 years, retiring in 1996.  After retiring, he discovered the joy of woodcarving and became a member of the Walnut Valley Woodcarvers.  He and Susan, both members of the Cherokee Strippers RV Club, enjoyed traveling in their motor home and traveled extensively.

Chuck was the proud father of two sons, Bradley W. DeMoss of Arkansas City, Kansas and Craig L. DeMoss of Overland Park, Kansas and the grandfather of Jared M. DeMoss of Paris, Texas and Gavin J. DeMoss of Collinsville, Oklahoma.  In addition to his wife, sons, and grandsons, he is survived by his sister, Mary Lou Cochran and husband, Julian of Moline, Kansas, several nephews, and his beloved, Bella.  Mr. DeMoss was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Bertha Marie.

Funeral services arranged by Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home of Arkansas City were held Saturday, March 12, 2011 at the Central Christian Church in Arkansas City, Kansas.  Special music, "Because He Lives", was performed by Kathy Bryant, and "I Can Only Imagine" was performed by Stephen Butler.  

Honorary casket bearers were Julian Cochran, Stephen Alexander, Todd Kennedy, Gary Cochran, Ted Pankratz, Adventurers Sunday School Class, Walnut Valley Woodcarvers, and the Cherokee Strippers RV Club.  Casket bearers were Brad DeMoss, Jared DeMoss, Syd Alexander, Craig DeMoss, Gavin DeMoss, Bill Seck, and Jerry Graham.
