Howard Attorney, Mrs. Tarwate,r Dies on Monday

HOWARD Katheryn S. Tarwater, 75, an attorney in Howard for many years, died Monday in the Newton Memorial Hospital following a long illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Spurrier-Watt Chapel with Rev. Ralph Olsen of the First Baptist Church officiating.  Interment will be at Grace Lawn Cemetery.

Katheryn S. Tarwater was born Oct. 15, 1892 at Howard, the daughter of Louis and Capitola (Hedges) Strachan.

She attended Howard schools and a business college in Fredonia.  An attorney, Mrs. Tarwater was a self-educated woman and passed her bar examination in 1929.

She lived her entire life in Howard except for six years in Oklahoma.  She married Walter Vinette in 1910 and he preceded her in death in 1918.  A son, Darrel Vinette, was born of this marriage.  He was a partner in the law office with his mother in Howard until his death in 1960.

On May 14, 1932, she was united in marriage to Rex Tarwater who survives at the home in Howard.

Mrs. Tarwater held membership in the Presbyterian Church of Howard, Kansas Federation of Republican Women, American Bar Association, Kansas Bar Association, American legion Auxiliary and was a charter member of the Howard Business and Professional Womens Club.

Other survivors include five grandchildren and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Helen Vinette, of Howard.
