MARRIED SIXTY-TWO YEARS
[/b]

Mr. and Mrs. Albert McConihey, Married in Indiana in 1868

The following from the Tacoma, Washington, Daily Times of recent date, tells of the wedding anniversary of a former Elk County couple, well remembered and highly respected by many readers of this paper;

A. A. McConihey, 87, reached out a gnarled old hand and gently touched a rose plucked from his garden at 6300 So. I St., last Wednesday afternoon, October 22nd.

"Your cheek was as soft and as smooth, as red and as beautiful as this rose, when we were married just 62 years ago today," he said to his smiling 82 year-old wife, who had just pinned the flower to his lapel.

For Wednesday was their 62nd wedding anniversary--a breath-taking span of time as man measures it.  They were married in 1868, shortly after the Civil War, in Indiana, where they had grown up together as children.  McConihey fought through the war and then returned to clailm his bright-eyed bride as a reward.

They moved to Kansas where they farmed for 30 years.  In 1904 they came to Tacoma.

Their marriage has been blessed with but one child--but their name and sturdy stock goes on in grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Their son is C. F. McConihey, 3204 Pacific Ave., an employee in the city engineer's office.  Their grandchildren are Mrs. Alice Singletary and Harlan McConihey.  Their great grandchildren are two year old Jeanine Singletary and her one-month old sister, Loree Lou.

Their recipe for happy marriage is the old, old, one that has been tested and found true in as many cases.  It's all a matter of giving and taking, they will tell you.

With the foregoing interesting sketch was printed an excellent portrait of Mr. and Mrs. McConihey.  The worthy couple lived in the Antioch neighborhood of this county many years before removing to Washington, and they still keep posted on the happenings of their old home community by regularly reading The Courant.
