Goodness... Mr. Obama sure found genuine compassion all of a sudden.  Or was it?  Time will tell.

THE PRESIDENT'S SPEECH

I'm using the term "The President's" relating to the speech because last night in Tucson he was truly presidential, not the leftist radical fighting for massive wealth seizure and redistribution and the "radical transformation" of America.

We saw last night much of what made an essentially unqualified man with all-too-much baggage our president. Barack Obama has an amazing ability to deliver a speech and connect to an audience, and some amazing word-crafters to help him in the effort.

Well ... I say "we saw." Actually that would be "you saw." I didn't watch. If I had watched the speech last night any appreciation I might have had for the words spoken would have been clouded by the contempt I have for the man speaking them. I did, though, read the transcript this morning, and I'll say this. It was a wonderfully crafted and expertly delivered address. President Obama - and you won't hear me put those words together too often - delivered the exact right speech at the exact right moment in the exact right tone. I actually found myself getting all weepy-like this morning as I read the transcript.

Today on the show I'll bring up some specific parts of the speech that I admired, including this:

"Let's remember that it is not because a simple lack of civility caused this tragedy --- it did not --- but rather because only a more civil and honest public discourse can help us face up to our challenges as a nation..."

That phrase ... "it did not" ... was not in the prepared remarks. That was added by Obama, presumably on the podium. With those words Barack Obama completely knocked the props out from under those people who were trying to blame Sarah Palin, the Tea Parties and talk radio for the events in Tucson.

Oh ... and about Sarah Palin. Yesterday we saw why the Republicans just cannot even flirt with the idea of making her the GOP candidate for president in 2012. Compare her statement to Obama's last night. Obama will eat her alive on the stump. Recognize that now to avoid carnage in the future.

Another thing ... no matter how wonderful Obama was last night in Tucson, we cannot let his expert and moving performance cause us to forget the agenda he harbors for our country. This speech does not mean that he suddenly believes in American exceptionalism; that he now realizes that the private markets are not "the enemy;" and that more government is not the answer to every problem, no matter how trivial, that faces us. He is still proceeding with his goal to radically transform our country ... and the Tucson tragedy doesn't give him that license.

Oh ... the "Together we Thrive" t-shirts were not the idea of the White House. That was the work of someone at the University of Arizona. T-shirts at a memorial service? Seems odd, and not that fantastic of an idea. But lay this one at the feet of the University officials.

I believe in giving credit where credit is due and I felt the President did an outstanding job last night.   However, for some reason, Napolitano reading Isaiah and Eric Holder reading Paul somehow, (pardon the pinball metaphor), made my brain TILT for a moment.

I am relieved to know that the T shirts were not put there by the Federal Government.

While I am all for God in public discourse, I had to wonder about those two seeming to endorse both the Old & New Testaments of the Bible.  Isn't that gonna upset the far left, or is this another case of what's good for the goose is not good for the gander?
