Parsons, the Last Place in the World

I knew, or had heard, that the last Kodachrome processing place in the world was in the U.S.

I thought it was in New York but it turns out it is in Parsons, Kansas, at a place called Dwayne's Photo.

According to an AP report in the Denver Post today, this last place in the world was scheduled to stop Kodachrome film processing at the end of 2010.

However, the company was hit with a deluge of film so great that they have had to delay their stoppage or closure until this week

A photographer in Arkansas sent them 1,580 rolls and incurred a $15,798 processing tab.
Other film submissions have come from China, Japan, and Australia.

The last Kodachrome processing place was at one time in New York by Kodak, but it turns out they subcontracted the developing to Dwayne's Photo in Parsons.

From searching the internet, it appears there are other Kodachrome processing places in the world, they are just not certified by Kodak.

Maybe another place will be certified by Kodak or maybe there is just not any or much Kodachrome film left since sales were terminated by Kodak in 2009.

King Soopers (Dillons, if you will) has announced that they will discontinue all photo operations, both digital and film processing, at their stores in Colorado.

The floor space devoted to these operations will be converted into other grocery sales.
