WOW!  East/west coast stupid invades Oklahoma

Boy, 13, Busted For Illegal Marker Possession
Oklahoma City math teacher in citizen's arrest of student

DECEMBER 22--A 13-year-old boy was arrested Friday for using a permanent marker while in class at his Oklahoma City middle school, a violation of an obscure city ordinance.

According to an Oklahoma City Police Department report, the boy was spotted "in possession of a permanent marker" by Roosevelt Middle School teacher DeLynn Woodside. The 50-year-old educator told cop Miguel Campos that the student was "writing on a piece of paper, which caused it to bleed over onto the desk."

Woodside, pictured at right, reported that the child, whose name was redacted by police from the report, attempted to hide the marker when she asked him for it. Strangely, Woodside's Facebook page reveals that her "likes and interests" include the official "Sharpie Permanent Markers" page on Facebook.

Campos reported that he allowed Woodside, a seventh grade math teacher, to "sign a citation" against the boy, who was then transported to the Community Intervention Center, a juvenile holding facility. A police sergeant subsequently "booked the marker into the property room."

A police spokesman referred to the student's bust as a "citizen's arrest" effectuated by Woodside.

This is really dumb! But I want to bring to light why some places are doing this, it is because children are being stupid themselves. Children are using dumb things to try and get high on. I think markers are one of them. I let my girls use permanent markers, because I watch them when they use them, and two I have children and nothing that they can harm with the markers. But the biggest reason that this happened there was because of the children abusing the markers. Haven't you heard of them blowing that canned air up their nose? Now how stupid is that?

These laws are set to try to stop this type of behavior. Not sure this is the way to do it, but I don't know what to say. They have taken the law to far.

OH..My...God!  Arrested for a marker?  What kind of dumbass teacher....words fail me.  And folks say we should be supportive of the teachers?
It is high time we eased the drought suffered by the Tree of Liberty. Let us not stand and suffer the bonds of tyranny, nor ignorance, laziness, cowardice. It is better that we die in our cause then to say that we took counsel among these.

I think that markers are outlawed in the Wichita schools to reduce graffitti. Many dollars are spent every year to clean that up.  :police:

According to the article, that was exactly the case here.... but police and the arrest of a 13 year old?  Kinda like swatting flies in the living room with a 12 gauge shotgun... no?

Since there is no longer corporal punishment in the schools, (parents are responsible for that), most schools now use the police to enforce behavior codes. Perhaps not to my liking, but that is the way it is. I do agree that the response is a little strong.

I agree, too! But sixdogs you have a point! If the parents don't do anything about it then who will? The school isn't supposed to do corporal punishment. My feelings is that the parents didn't know that the kid had it, didn't read the school handbook, and doesn't probably pay attention much to the student. I read the handbook every year, just to make sure that the girls know how to behave. Not that they do, but if I get told what goes on I take care of it.
