(This contains some biographical information.)

The announcement of Ben H. Carter of Howard township appears in this issue of The Citizen as a candidate for sheriff, subject to the decision of the Republican voters in their primaries, August 3rd.

Mr. Carter is a son of the late Tom M. Carter, who was one of the first settlers in Elk County, a Civil War veteran, and his mother still lives in Howard.  Ben was a World War soldier and a brother to Lieutenant Dick Carter, who lost his life in the war and was one of the lads the Elk County American Legion post was named after.

Mr. Carter is a farmer has lived in Elk County all of his life and has always rated as a good boy and a good man.  He is married, has a family and has always performed his part as a good citizen.  He will make an active campaign for the nomination and if nominated for the election, and if chosen by the voters of the county as their sheriff, will perform the duties of the office without fear of favor. ---The Citizen
