Mary Electa (Webster) (Stark) Barnes, age 96, a lifelong resident of Howard, Kansas, passed away Monday, November 15, 2010 at the Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka, Kansas.  She was born on October 27, 1914, the daughter of Walter C. and Maude (Biddinger) Webster.

Mary was a graduate of Howard High School.  On March 2, 1933, Mary was united in marriage to Ray J. Stark, and to this union was born one daughter, Donna Marlene Stark.  Ray preceded Mary in death on June 4, 1956.  On December 30, 1967, she was united in marriage to John R. Barnes, and he preceded her in death on February 26, 1984. 

Ray and Mary owned and operated Stark Grocery in Howard from 1952 to 1967.  Mary was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Howard and served as both Deputy Treasurer and Elk County Treasurer until her retirement.  She also helped found the Howard Senior Center and was Elk County Chairman for the American Heart Association for 15 years.

Mary is survived by her brother, Harold Webster of Wichita, Kansas; two grandsons, Jerry Bair and wife, Julie of Duncanvile, Texas and Ray Bair and wife, Kate of San Francisco, California; and four great-grandchildren, Brian Bair of Ft. Hood, Texas, Bryan Kirk of Duncanville, Texas, Jennifer Bair of Magnolia, Texas, and Stefanie Bair of Tucson, Arizona.  She was preceded in death by her two husbands; her parents; her daughter, Donna (Stark) Bair on December 18, 2009; and one brother, Dallas Webster.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, November 20, 2010 at Countryside-Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard, Kansas with Pastor Gene DeWitt officiating.  Viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home  Interment will follow at Grace Lawn Cemetery.  Family suggests contributions be made to the First Baptist Church and may be left with the funeral home  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.countrysidefh.com.  Arrangements are under the direction of Countryside-Zimmerman Funeral Home, 206 E.
