I´m posting from Lilienthal. it´s a surburb (12.000 inhabitants) to Bremen (600.000 inhabitants) and 35 miles from the north sea coast and Bremerhaven( next us-base with military harbor) away.

the distance to Wiesbaden?  ...nearly 300 miles or 4 hours by a car.

I´m a civilian and  happily married*my wife wanted this to add ;)*to a german woman.

How did you manage to find the Howard Forum?
Were you here at one time living close?

My husband is from Norway..Been here almost 3 years and he can speak "some" German, but only if he has too. LOL
How long have you been in Germany and away form the U.S.?

Lots of questions, but if I don't ask them. Janet will and I wanted to beat her to the punch.

Yes, that has me very curious, too, as to how Micheal found the Howard Forum.  Tell me! Tell me!  :) :)

Puhhhh...that´s a long story, that needs a little bit time for informative explanations. :)

No, I have never seen kansas or elk county with my own eyes before, but it is my desire to visit your county so soon as I can handle that.
During my genealogy researches about my own direct family and their relatives with other surnames, I found out, that we are connected with elk county for more as 50 years.
Some relatives was born there or married their spouses in elk county.
A greatgrandgrandmother from me, in direct bloodline, is buried
in paw paw or a cemetery nearby severy.

The glenn´s moved from pennsylvania and west virginia to kansas, from there to washington, oregon and california, that all within a period of 230 years.

That waked my curiosity.

...what I have seen during my researches in web obout elk county, the people, the wildlife, the scenics and and and...  seems to me very pleasant.

that`s the main reason for my being here.

My mom and my stepfather moved after his retirement this summer as permanent inhabitants to orsa in dalarna county (sweden).
They bought there a house with a 4 acre lot 15 years ago and lived there saisonal during his holidays as teacher.
Sweden and norway are wonderful countries, but to short summertimes and to strong and long wintertimes.

My mom immigrated to the US 1956 and becomes her green card ´58 , was employed in denver as secretary and translator for a lawyer in foreign affairs and traders.
In denver she meets my father(stay there for visiting relatives) ´59 and the last meeting of many meetings ends with a marriage.*that makes me wonder*
Later (1961) she moved with him to California and during the trip by car to L.A. a little child was born in san jose.
Of course they made a short break in san jose, for moms belly in the hospital and need for the brakes at dads car  also a break in an automotive shop, the rockies and the sierra was to much for the old buick straight eight. ;D
It could be, the baby was named michael glenn.

Every meeting has an end, moms and dads also after a couple of years, he wasn´t a man of honor and a divorce was the best for both.
Also for me?

I can´t find out the right answer for my own since nearly four decades. ???

...other questions are answered by mysellf!

My forty year long meeting in germany must have an end.
The difference between german and us-mentality is for me not longer easily to ignore .
Germany changed his face and his behaviour complete the last 20 years ago, I know exactly what I write down here on board. :(
And the regular holidays in CA are to not enough for my mental wellness.
I love california, espacially the weather, hermosa beach and san pedro and my CA-familymembers and friends are really friendly to me,my wife and my kids, ...but nobody with normal income can pay there the prices for houses as second residence or seasonal living.
The crime rate is unbelieveable high in L.A. and overcrowded is not the right word in the summertime. ;D

It would be a big wrong to put up for sale my wifes business and to give up my own small one.

It seems to me, it is better to start with a little second residence and build up to the first residence.

...but where is the right place for this project?
