I have so many friends that will meet me one day. Each one as precious as the next.
It started with Blondie (the 7 week old cocker who I watched get hit by a car. ( I was ten)
Then there is Skipper, and Skippy and Cricket and then Wendy and Niki my first german shepard that I got when she was 6 weeks old and my youngest was 18 months and then Taco, her pup and Jocko and now Scooter and Sassy. I have forgotten a few as my life would not be complete without my animal friends. Those are just some of the dogs, I dare not start with the cats.
But, one day I was grieving over a loss and my friend sent this poem to me.
Now I share it with you.
You are loved Edie and she will be waiting for you. Hugs and God bless you in your loss.

The Rainbow Bridge
inspired by a Norse legend
By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,

Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.

Where the friends of man and woman do run,

When their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next,

Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.

On this golden land, they wait and they play,

Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,

For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.

Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,

Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care,

Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.

All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,

Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

For just at that instant, their eyes have met;

Together again, both person and pet.

So they run to each other, these friends from long past,

The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart,

Has turned into joy once more in each heart.

They embrace with a love that will last forever,

And then, side-by-side, they cross over... together.

Edie.. I do not think there is anyone out here who has a "family member pet" that hasn't felt what you are feeling.. Your heart is breaking and it hurts even to breath.. I cry as I write this because even after 5 years.. I STILL miss my little Taffy...
But I know that she is on the other side.. happy and healthy ( and with my daddy..who she loved almost as much as me)  :)... I will see her again.. You did what you did.. BECAUSE you loved her.. That is the ultimate gift to her..was to allow her to gently cross over to a place where she no longer hurt. She is safe  until you see her again.

There is still a special place in my heart for each one of my pets that I have lost.  I have special memories of each one and that helps when I am missing them.  Losing each one has been like losing a special member of my family.

Oh, so sad. I hate that you have to go through that. I have been through making that decision, so I will pray that God will ease the heartache as best as He can.

I am so sorry for the loss of your longtime friend.  Pets are just the best.....................

Two days before my surgery I called my fiance, Buck, just sobbing.  He was consoling me and telling me not to be afraid, etc.  Finally I said that I wasn't crying about the surgery at all.  I was crying because the next day I would have to leave Bingo and Chloe with friends and didn't know how long they would have to be away.  They are so a part of our heart.  I think they can come home soon.
