Another I wrote in my teenage years...

Marble Marker

The worst thing he did was to tell her he loved her
She said she too, was true.
Somehow, she forgot how much he loved her,
A week later she was with someone new.
His heart ached so badly, he wanted to die.
For the first time in years, he broke down and cried.
He didn't have much, but the love in his heart,
But said all would be hers, and they'd never part.
Now her love is gone to somebody new
And he's walking around with a space in his heart.
He gave her all of his love
Something he'd never done for anyone.
A love so free it flew like a dove,
Flew like a shot from his loaded gun.

The worst thing he did was to tell her he loved her.
Now she is sad and alone.
She realizes now how much he did love her
As she stares at his marble tombstone.
