Silas A. Vaught, 96, a former resident of rural Fall River, Kansas, died on Sunday, August 15, 2010 at the Kansas Masonic Home in Wichita, Kansas.  He was born December 17, 1913 in Choctaw, Oklahoma, the son of Andy and Ethel (Blazier) Vaught.

He was a 1933 graduate of Severy High School in Severy, Kansas.  Silas worked for the Frisco Railroad and Boeing before he was the owner and operator of the Vaught Service Station and restaurant located at the New Albany turnoff on old 96 Highway.  Silas was also a Mason and served for 65 years, most of which was spent with the Greenwood County Lodge #163 in Fall Rive. 

On July 3, 1934, he married LaVera Smith.  She preceded him in death February 14, 1983.

Survivors include two children, LaVina "Joan" Burt and husband, Melvin of Wichita, Kansas and Charles "Jack" Vaught and wife, Marilyn of Okmulgee, Oklahoma; one daughter-in-law, Mary Vaught of Wichita, Kansas; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother Joseph Vaught; his son, James Vaught; and his grandson, Jimmie.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 20, 2010 at Weakley Cemetery in Wilson County near New Albany, Kansas, with Reverend Joe Voss officiating and Masonic rites by Greenwood Lodge #163.  Visitation will be at Timmons Funeral Home on Thursday, August 19, 2010 from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
