John Max Henderson, 83, passed away August 1, 2010, at Wesley Towers Thorne Care Center in Hutchinson, Kansas. He was born June 29, 1927, in Sedan, Kansas, the son of Cecil William and Meomia (Copple) Henderson.

He graduated from Dexter, Kansas High School and attended Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas and finished with his Masters Degree from Wichita State University. He served during World War II in the United States Navy. He was a High School Business Education Teacher for 37 years.  On December 23, 1951 he married Ramona Joyce Henderson who preceded him in death.

He is survived by his children: Pamela Joan (Steven P.) Saffle, Lisa Joanne (Robert A.) Vieyra, David Joel Henderson; daughter-in-law, Alice C. Henderson; a sister, Sandra Lea (Bobby) Eastman; his grandchildren, Abby Joanne (Shawn C.) Younts, Eric Paul (Brandy A.) Saffle, Scott Alexander (Natasha C.) Henderson, Timothy Joel Henderson, Dominique Xavier Vieyra, Andrea Lynn Saffle, Lorenzo Robert (Tori) Vieyra, Casey Lin (Matthew E.) Walker, Evan Michael Henderson, Christian Tyler Vieyra, Anastasia Grace Vieyra, Rhiannon Christiana Vieyra; his great-grandchildren, Matthew Layne Saffle, Kaden Andrew Saffle, Gracelynn Leigh Younts, Lucas Christopher Younts and Brooke Mae Henderson.  Besides his wife, he is also preceded in death by a son, John Mark Henderson; a granddaughter, Kelly Lane Henderson; and a sister, Barbara Jeanette Ryan.

Funeral 10 a.m. today at Park Place Christian Church, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Dr. Kim Biery presiding. Burial will take place following the service in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, Kansas. Memorials may be made to the church in care of Heritage Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 528 N. Main Street, Hutchinson, Kansas 67501.

John was the business teacher at Howard High School in the 50s and early 60s.  I had been in touch with him over the past few years.  John loved working with young people and was one of my best high school teachers.
