(from the WILSON COUNTY CITIZEN  Fredonia, Kansas  Friday May 7, 1915)

Mrs. Elizabeth McCluskey, widow of the late William McCluskey who had long resided in and near New Albany, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Sheel, in Elk-co. six miles from Moline, on Sunday, May 2.  Her funeral was held at the Presbyterian church in New Albany on Monday afternoon and was conducted by the Rev. John A. McKamy on Fredonia.  Her burial took place at Weakley cemetery on the Fredonia road, two miles south of New Albany.
It will be recalled that McCluskey died last November.  He and his wife who has now joined him in that fair land beyond the smiling and the weeping were highly-esteemed citizens of the north side of the county where they had lived since the early seventies.  They came from Scotland almost directly to Kansas and cast in their lot with this growing young State.  They were natives of Lanarkshire.  Mrs. McCluskey was born February 7, 1841.  She was married in 1861. To their union twelve children were born.
It meant something to be a wife and the mother of a large old-fashioned Scottish family in early time in Kansas.  But Mrs. McCluskey belonged to that race of hardy folk that did not hesitate to meet the hard conditions of pioneer life.  Seven of her sons and daughters survive her, all of whom were present at her funeral.  These ar Mrs. Elizabeth Sheel of Elk-co., Mrs.Mary J. Woodman of Moline, Charles McCluskey of Severy; William McCluskey of Howard; James K. McCluskey of Hutchinson; John A. and Thomas McCluskey, who reside on the old home farm near New Albany.  In addition to these were present at the funeral a number of grandchildren and also Mr. James K. McCluskey of Pittsburg, Kansas, the only surviving member of Mr. William McCluskey's family.
Mrs. McCluskey was a charter member of the Presbyterian church of New Albany.  In keeping with the racial characteristics of her people she was earnestly religious.  And like so many other sturdy Scotch people she was an uncomprimising Presbyterian.

(from THE MOLINE ADVANCE   May 6, 1915)

Mrs. Elizabeth McCluskey, widow of the late William McCluskey, passed to her eternal rest Sunday, May 2nd, 1915, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Sheel, near Moline.

Mrs. McCluskey was born in Scotland, February 7, 1841.  She was united in marriage to William McCluskey, December 31, 1861.  To this union were born 12 children of whom the following survive her:  Mrs. Frank Sheel and Mrs. F. L. Wadman of Moline, Charles McCluskey of Severy, William McCluskey of Howard, J. K. McCluskey of Hutchinson, John A. McCluskey and T. A. McCluskey of New Albany.

Mrs. McCluskey came to America with her husband in 1869 and they lived in Elk county, Kansas most of the time since then.  A few years ago they moved to New Albany where they lived until the death of the husband last autumn when she came to Moline and made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Frank Sheel.  She was a good wife and mother and kind neighbor who will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

The funeral was held Monday, May 3rd, at New Albany and the remains were laid to rest in the New Albany cemetery beside those of her husband.

The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of all in the irreparable loss.
