Lorene (Wallace) Hawkins of Neodesha, Kansas, died Saturday, July 3, 2010 at the Golden Living Center in Neodesha.  She was 90.  The daughter of Roy and Lou (Bell) Wallace, she was born December 4, 1919 in rural Cedar Vale, Kansas.  She received her education in Cedar Vale.

On November 3, 1940, she was united in mariage to Lester Hawkins.  He preceded her in death May 27, 2005.  Mrs. Hawkins was a nurses's aide and was employed for many years at the hospital in Winfield, Kansas.  She moved to Neodesha, Kansas in 2003 due to their declining health.  She was a member of the Church of Christ in Winfield, Kansas and later the Church of Christ in Neodesha, Kansas.

Survivors include one daughter, Joana White and her husband, Steve of Thayer, Kansas;  two sons, Ed Hawkins and his wife, Sharon of Wasola, Missouri and David Hawkins and his wife, Marie of Chanute, Kansas; one brother, Ward Wallace of Mobile, Alabama; one sister, Darlene Harper of Arkansas City, Kansas; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; and a caregiver, Keith Baker of Neodesha.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; one sister; and one great-great-granddaughter, Keegan White.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Loran Fawcett Chapel, 704 Indiana, Neodesha, KS 66757.  Family inurnment will be held August 7, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Grenola Cemetery in Grenola, Kansas.  Memorial cobntributions may be made to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice of Coffeyville, Kansas and may be sent to the funeral home.
