Ya can cut down mulberry and elm saplin's any time a tha year.  Out dated canned goods are always in season.  I recomend small caliber and high velocity fer them, 3000 fps impact velocity is great, do it under a tree and see who can hang string beans the highest on the branches. ;D ;D

We use our .22 lever guns to pick avocados in the top of my cousin's 20' trees. Great fun and practice. We get guacamole for the next week, too.

One of the most gun targets I've ever done might be a bit PI in some areas but it is really a safe way to start a brush pile on fire. (Get proper burnin' permit)  Take 2 liter pop bottle and fill with coal oil, stuff a rag tight in the neck, place bottle on top of pile, light wick.  (I learn't this trick from a Russian WWII Colonel name Molotov. ;D)  Now get out a serious had gun (mouse pharts don't work) and shoot it from bout 25 yards.  Bruss pile will start on fire nicley.  Also works for houses (with proper permit and permission of owner. ;D)  Do not use high velocity rifle or the fire will go beyond where it is intended. ;D (Take this caution seriously, my brother almost burnt down two sheds for the price of one. ;D  The permit only said shed not sheds.  Beside we weren't dome storing stuff in the other one.)

Doc. Gotta ask the question...  Did you make the bottle jump and did you keep it in the air like Lee Van Cleef did with Clint's hat in "For a Few Dollars More?" Just saw this film on TV this past weekend for the umpteenth time.  ;D

I have nearly worn out my mouse clicking back and forth watching the videos you did on shooting tips. Also thanks for the shooting tips on this forum.
Regards.

Just making it jump.  Can't keep it in the air at the range, low berms :o

Plinking is fun shooting. Any gun, reactive target and safe distance. Try a Nerf ball race. Pick a number of shots. Whoever knocks it further wins.

Try oranges or apples, even spuds.  You know for sure when you hit 'em cause they blow up!  Best part is the local wild life gets to have a feast after you leave.  Theres a vegetable stand about a mile from my house selling 10 pd bags of potatoes for 65 cents right now.  Cheap exploding targets.   Gonna pick up a couple of bags, take the lever rifle and pistola and head out into the desert. Blow up some taters and feed the critters at the same time!  ;D (BTW....I strongley suggest you don't try this at the local gun range...they frown on targets of an unusal nature   ;))

After the Tricker Treaters have got there fill, I buy up as many of those cheep flat suckers as I can. Drill holes in a 2x4 for the stick, back off as far as you want and let them have it. Removeing the plastic first macks for less mess.

I've been saving old plastic Pepsi bottles. One of these days we'll make Jello in the kitchen, fill those bottles and take them out to the range.

We found out that pumpkins don't explode as well as melons or fruit do, but that meant we got to shoot them more than once. Will was trying to shoot a smiley face into the big one.

Annie;  Cut a small hole in the top of the pumpkin and fill it with water.  Insert a high velocity fragile bullet at at least 3000 fps.  Pumpkin bits all over. ;D

Del, my son wants to fill one with green jello. I wonder where he gets such creativity?

Annie, do not bring him out here for deer season like you threatened.  A week with my brother, Gopher Grease, GG's brother, fresh back from the big sand box and Charles mu mother's "other son" we talked about and you will have problems.  Course I am only a Tech adviser that offers scientific advive.  Perhaps Dr. Bill could also show up. :o :o ;D

A good many years ago I was still in graduate school while working part time as a security guard/bouncer to make ends meet.  My wife was selling furniture but we didn't have a lot of money to spare.  For Christmas the first year after we were married I went to a local gun shop and bought two used, Marlin bolt-action 0.22 rifles.  I think I paid less than $100 for the pair.  There was a local range which had a 0.22 steel silhouette section.  As I recall, they charged about $2 an hour to shoot (circa 1985).  We spent many Saturday afternoons with a brick of cheap, 0.22 ammo and a picnic lunch out at the shooting range.  It is hard to beat that sort of experience.

For a challenging plinking target get some string and a bunch of steel washers, tie a couple washers to the string at about 6 inch intervals then tie the string to a cross bar. The trick is to shoot the string from the bottom up without hitting the washers. Fun, reusuable, cheap and challenging once the string starts to move after the first hit or a breeze picks up

Sadly, I didn't take pics, Prof! But punkin season is nearly on us once again.

I'd like to incorporate punkin shooting into our October local match. Everyone who comes should bring their own pumpkin. On the last stage, the shooter throws their pumpkin down the hill, then starts shooting. The last shot would be a shotgun blast at their own pumpkin.

Since it's the last shoot before Halloween, the idea might fly.
