I need a GAF flag

We are doing color guard at The Great Nor' Easter, the new SASS New England Regional in July.  I have secured the use of a cavalry flag -- the one with pointy ends, sort of a triangle cut out of it on the end with the stripes and it has a period-correct pole? standard? (what is the correct word?) with the brass spear thingy on top to go with it. (Thanks to the CT. Valley Bushwackers and our TG, Cayuse)  I'm sorry I don't know the right terms, this is an OJT situation.

The other one I'd like to have is a GAF flag.  Either to buy or to borrow.  Or better yet, bring it with you and help with the color guard.

Can anybody help me out?  I have a fuzzy memory of somebody that was making them at some point a while back, but no idea who that was.

Side note: I made an announcment at a local shoot asking for interested folks to do the color guard.  I had some serious interest in GAF.  Folks that have sort of heard about it but don't really know what it is.  It looks like getting ourselves "out there" is going to be a good recruitment move.

  Lou,
I have one of the green scout GAF Flags. Don't know if that is what you would want But you're welcome to use it if you want. Let me know.     jt

Lou,

The GAF guidon I  had for color guard at mulecamp  was mailed back to Col Schmitt 2-3 days ago and should be available to you.

I was by myself  so I didnt really get to use the GAF guidon. Overall, I think the color guard went good for starters.

Best, Sgt Cannon Fodder

Greetings, Captain Graham, et al;

When the Guidon becomes available to you, would you mind taking the measurements of the hoist and fly, and sending them my way?  With this information, I can scale out the rest of the Guidon, and have one made for the Department of the Pacific.

I have the honor to remain,

Thanks to all of you, boy that was quick!

Col. Bull - emule on the way.

Col. Thorne -- I'll take measurments and even some pictures for you.

Capt. O'Toole  -- "swallow tail" that's exactly what it is and easy to remember.

Yes it is Lou.

We're getting more recognition all the time. In the Spring 2006 issue of The Guns of the Old West a gun evaluation article mentions the GAF and in another article there is a photo of a holster by GAF member Trail Rider.

I just took delivery on the Troop D guidon for the Cav. unit here in the Division of the Pacific Northwest, Dept. of the Pacific.
It was made for me by Potholder Polly, Cap'n Saivuer Bacon's lovely bride. the prce is $55.

I'm at work and don't have access to my contacts list at home, but if you Google cowboycupboards.com
I'll bet you'll find a link to them.

Folks, I thought I would resurrect a topic of discussion here.  I thought I would start here without beginning a brand new thread since I have the same kind of question.  I searched cascity for "guidon" and found this.

I have been trying for several weeks now to find an accurate size guidon for the VIII Corps to no avail.  I want one for my guncart.  Everywhere on ebay they are full 3x5 ft flags and not the 27 inch size.  Searching the internet also proves fruitless.  I have tried searching the cowboy cupboards website and didn't find it.

Does anyone have information on getting one made at a reasonable price?

Thank you.

So no one has any helpful information?  I am surprised to say the least.

Technically 5th Corps would not have a Guidon, but rather "Colors" a full sized flag.

I have the Actual Company Guidon from C/3/6 Infantry that was carried when I was the Comany Commander at home.  They were going to give me a brand new shiny one but I really wanted the old raggedy one.

I can measure it when I get home tonight.

I bought a customized Regimental colors (you can see it in the background of my avatar) on E-bay. Cherry Lake Kate made a Guidon for the late Lt. Col. Cherry Lake Jake. Following his passing she sent it to me. Probably the best bet is to find someone to make one for you.

Thank you Gentlemen; that is more information than I had before.  I didn't realize it would be a challenge.  However, I am always up for a challenge when it is something I want.   8)

Thank you sir; I did browse the heraldry page looking for information.  However, I didn't find anyone who can make one.  I did just find someone on ebay that can make a smaller custom sized version for me; for extra cost of course.  I just have to decide how much I really want one.   :o
