Evenin all,
Been readin an enjoyin your site here for 6, 7 months but this is my first post.
I've been shootin Goex in my C&B Uberties for a good many years now so
today i tried some of the Goex rounds in an Ubertie 45. It did not go so very
well. With Black Hills loads i usually shot it'll easy keep all 6 in the rings at 25 yards
but with the Goex loads today i couldn't keep 6 on the 2X3 foot poster board
i put the targets on. My son inlaw couldn't do any better, so we cleaned it up,
got out a box of the Black Hills loads and it was right on again. Anybody have an
idea as to why it was throwin all over the place? Thanks an y'all have a good site
here.

I have never shot either of those brands, I roll my own, but I believe I heard that Blackdawgs are loaded with Goex Pinnacle. I don't know what Black Hills uses. The black Hills kicked more is my guess, because I think it is a more for anyone load, while Blackdawg is tailored for the cowboy crowd. Cowboy action pistol targets are more along the line of only 7-10 yards out and are huge. Accuracy isn't as important as shooting a targets with a bull on it. 25 yards is a long rifle target in CAS. I would render that as my guess. Cowboy shooters load down and end up filing front sights for POA. If you are going to load any particular powder/bullet for accuracy at a particular distance, you will have to load your own I am afraid. BP and subs can be every bit as accurate as smokeless, but you will need to experiment.

Did you clean all the smokeless "residue" from yer revolver before shooting the BP loads through it? I ask because sometimes a gun will not perform well at all with BP after being shot with smokeless stuff. A good cleaning that leaves the gun with no petrol based oils  or lube residue will do the trick when all else fail.......sometimes.

Still, an unfortunate aspect of shooting BP in cartridge guns is that each gun is an individual and this becomes more pronounced when shooting Black Powder. Smokeless loads are much more forgiving. So, as Howdy Doody noted, you may find you have to reload BP to find the load that works well in your particular firearm. BTW, I don't know what Black Dawg uses for thier slugs but Big Lube bullets are highly recommended for reloaders shooting real black powder in revolvers and carbines!

I`d have to agree .. hand loading B/P is the way to go ... it doesn`t have to be a large investment eaither .. you can buy a Lee hand loading kit from Cabelas for around 15 bucks ..and it`ll give you a starting place that`ll let you do all the experimenting ya need . Then if ya want to stay with it .. you can buy the more expencive loading equipment .. the only thing that doesn`t come with the hand loading kit is a plastic hammer and a bench to work on . there`s enough imfromation on this forum site ..to keep ya busy for a while . I started with a lee hand loader as a kid of around 13 .. my dad said store bought bullets were too expencive for us .. so i loaded mine and his .  good luck with it and don`t be afraid to ask questions . advice doesn`t cost a dime here .

Roll-yer-own...

I handload all BP cartridges with either my Lyman 310 tool or Lee handloader.

I have used my turret and autodisk measure in the past, but, net setup for it right now.

I THOUGHT blackdawg were with REAL BP, not subs... maybe I was misinformed.

They were using the real deal. Then they started offering Pinacle in em. I thought they were offering both. I could be wrong.

Thank y'all for the answers. Cleaned and degreased it before shooting the
Goex loads, just a little bore butter on the cylinder pin and lite wipe in the
bore. Acted just like a ASM 1860 i have, with pyrodex it's spray and pray,
equevalent loads of goex and it's fine for those 25 yrd 4x4 pistole tiles n-ssa
uses. Reloading may be the only way to go, or just stick with smokeless as
everything else i have are front stuffers. I'm a newbie to catridge guns :D
y'all have a good one.
