My Newport had crank windows. The New Yorker probably had electric windows.  ::)

HAPPY LAMMAS DAY (August 1)

From the Old English hlaf, "loaf," and maesse, "mass" or "feast," Lammas is very old. It derives from the ancient English festival the Gule of August, which marked the beginning of the harvest, traditionally August 1. The early English church kept this pagan dedication of the first fruits but converted it to Christian usage. Through the centuries, "loaf-mass" became corrupted in spelling and pronunciation to Lammas. On Lammas Day, loaves of bread were baked from the first-ripened grain and brought to the churches to be consecrated.
"After Lammas Day, corn ripens as much by night as by day."

Sod Buster's August Weather Lore

Observe on what day in August the first heavy fog occurs, and expect a hard frost on the same day in October.

If the first week in August is unusually warm, the winter will be white and long.    :o :o :o

If corn husks are thicker than usual, a cold winter lies ahead.

If corn blades twist up, it will rain.

I usually don't shoot them until after the first frost.  There are less fleas that way.  :o

Me neither, At 100+ today I don't think a lot of folks went out today.  They did that several years ago cause almost no one hunts them any way and that way there is a month that they are the only season open, the idea was to get more to try it I guess.

our squirrel season opens Oct 9,  hog season is year round,   gotta get me a new hunting license, reminded me you'all talking about it, they changed it last year where everybodys license expires June 30,  used to be just year to year on the day you bought it.
We done it for Dixie,  nothing else
