you gonna havta stop down there in Ft. Smith sometime and see the stuff they got on display,  they got they old federal courthouse and a replica of the original 6 noose gallows. out front. they got tons of pictures and quite a display.

they been a lot of talk lately about the  marshall service,  building a musem near the court house,

I've got a question folks. 

I'm looking to have the guy in the metal shop at work make some spinners for me.  What thickness of steel is recommended to handle up to .44 mag.?  What about for a rifle up to .45?  I want to be able to put these things in my trunk since I don't have the luxury of a back yard shooting gallery.

I'd use 3/8 to 1/2 inch but I over build everything.   The arms will be the part more easy to damage using the lower velocity lead bullets, the plates work like a lever on them.

Del, I think you're right on the 3/8 to 1/2 inch,    I've welded a steel rebar rod down the back of the arm on some targets I've built to brace it. weld it at both ends but not in the middle kinda like a crude shock absorber.

I've built one simular to the one in this picture except it had longer arms between the targets. but for ease of carrying around and getting it out and useing it.  something along this design could work.

if the guy could come up with some pipe or square tubing you could have both the frame and ground stand made of these and make it where you could attach the frame to stand,  it would be easy to transport. 

the spinner could be held on the shaft with a couple of washers welded on each side of the spinner. that'd keep it from walking side to side.

My original thought was to stick the thing into the ground.  Would this not work? 

By attaching the frame to the stand are you saying that the stand should be larger and the frame fit into the stand?  We use square tubing, I just wonder how much can be written off as "Scrap"

I've looked at these items below on the web, but due to their relative low price I'm not sure how long they will last.  Also, I have looked at similar polymer targets where the bullet simply passes through.  They are supposed to withstand thousands of hits but not pose any danger of ricochet.  Are you familiar with these?

I've got about an 8 ft. road grader blade, I've been thinking about making a spinning target for rifles and FMJ bulllits out of it,  I know it's tough maybe then Del can bring his 243 and shot away.  I've always liked them targets that move when ya hit em.

That ought to be fun.  Paint it PINK and call it "Slim"

I  think sticking it in the ground would be ok, unless you run into some rocky ground or real dry. that target on top looks like it would work just make it out of a little stouter material.

the base would probaly need to be at least 3 ft. pieces of square tubing to be stable.

Trinty I've got a couple of the spinner targets, Welded legs to one to get it off the ground, that I think is the only down fall, they sit to close to the ground.....Now Sod Buster has the perfect hunter reality target.................It's a hoot.

Yes the Prairie Dawg it's hoot. Flips up the air when you hit like the real thing.  The other, yes they sit low to the ground at pistol range they are too low, sit them out farther and shoot with rifle and they are okay. I've shot them with all of our rifles including my .30-30 and with the shotguns.  No signs of stress on them, over a year now.  Midway is offering them for 20 bucks this month

I read in here, one of the forums sometime back. One of the pards welded a steel plate to a coil spring off a car and built a base for the other end, then when you shoot it it gets erradic movement.  I think something like this would be fun too.  I've been looking for the spring
