WHILE SHOOTING MY VAQUERO THIS AM THE EJECTOR ROD FELL OFF. ON TO THE GROUND. OF COURSE I COULD NOT FIND THE SCREW THAT FELL OUT. A LOCAL GUN STORE HAD A REPLACEMENT, A SMALL MIRICLE. ALL RV OWNERS SHOULD CHECK THIS SCREW THAT HOLDS THE ROD ON, LOCATED AT THE END OF THE ROD NEAR THE MUZZLE. I HAVE TWO GUNS AND THE ONE WAS STILL TIGHT. ALSO ALL RV OWNERS MIGHT WANT TO GET A REPLACEMENT SCREW JUST IN CASE.   DOC.

This is pretty common with them.  I use a little bit of purple locktite to help keep them in place.

What Doc said. ;)

I try to check all the screws as I put them back in the safe, and again as I take them out to pack for a shoot.

That's a good heads up!

Where can we order extra screws to have handy?  Will Ruger supply them?  What is the exact name of the part for ordering purposes?  ???

Delmonico

I use plumbers teflon tape for thread blocker.  It works as good as Loc-tite is cheaper and is easier to remove when the item is disassembled.  Besides that it never got out of a bottle and leaked all over my shooting box. :o

Folks who know me, know it is in my opinion one of only two uses I have ever found for teflon, the other don't have nothing ta do with cookware either. ;D ;)

All joking aside try it it don't leak or dry out.

Howdy All,

It ain't jest Rugers that'll dump yer ejector rod & housing, all Colts SAA's and Clones can do the same thing. Checking the screws with a proper screwdriver is something we all should be doing. Thanks for the head's up!

I think the screws name is ejector rod housing screw. I would think any ruger dealer could order it or you can call ruger directly. Some loc-tite or teflon is a good idea.

Another screw to keep an eye on is the one that holds the cylinder pin in.  I lost one somewhere and didn't notice it until the night before the NCOWS Nationals.  Luckily a food pard had an extra Vaquero with him and put the screw from his gun into mine.

I called Ruger and they send me a couple.  If you call them they will send ;)

Ok if ya want the truth, I use the plumbers tape on all screws on all my guns.  Never know which one will decide ta drop out.  I even now use it on the cleaning jag on my Dewey Rod I use on the Sharps.  If it drops off while on the 4 wheeler between the range and the house a 1/2 mile ya know how long it takes ta find it! ;D

Is is possible to get get a screwdriver set for the Ruger Vaquero?   I've seen advertised in the COWBOY CHRONICLE for Colt tool sets, but wondered if a special set was needed for R/V's?

Bronco Six

I've had that little @%$^# screw pop out twice - shame on me. Luckily the pin and housing were within a foot of each other on the ground.
Standard procedure now to check it as I'm paciking up my gear the night before a match. Also I check the seating of the cylinder base pin at the loading table. Had one start to come loose in the  middle of a stage.

Thanks for the head's up Doc.
