Howdy pards!

I recently won a gift certificate for some gun work or engravin' at "Texas Jack Gunsmith & Engraving".

Thanks, Texas Jack!

San Juan speaks highly of this company.

My question is:

Have any of you had any experience with "Texas Jack Gunsmith and Engraving" at Mokelumne Hill, California?

The engravin' part of the deal is kind of out of this ol' cowboy's needs.  But, it sure would be great to have my good ol' pistolas worked over by a master gunsmith.

All comments will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, pards!

I did not know he moved to the next town over, Moke Hill. He was in San Andreas. Texas Jack aka Frank Leaman has been around for many a year. He does all the bigger shoots on the west coast. His engraving is really good. I have his engraving on 4 of my ROAs. He always seems to be able to fix a broken gun at a shoot and carries a lot of odd ball parts with him.
Yup, he does a great job.

Hell of an engraver. All done free hand so it ain't perfect, but darn close and you know it was done by SOMEBODY, not a machine.

And Frank is quite the magician as well.

Saw Texas Jack at the High Sierra Shootout this past week. He had his tent up and was working and working and working. I saw a Marlin and two rugers he slicked up and got to handle them after the pard picked them up. Smooth.........
I also stood there in his tent while he drew on a whiskey flask for a gal shooter I know well and he got he approval on the sketch and then engraved it with his tool and small hammer. 1/2 later it looked great and that is all the time it takes him.
I forgot to mention your prize, but call him. That web tv web address he has doesn't always work very well. Now that the big match season is upon us, he no doubt will be on the road a lot. He said he was doing Western States in Fernley NV next. Once he has your shooter in hand for slicking or engraving he doesn't take a long time. It is just he is busy driving around and not home much in the warmer months. Slick a Marlin and install a C&I one piece? About an hour if uninteruppted. He is some kind of fast.

Marshal Will Wingam

Frank worked my wife's Cimarron pistols over. Did a first-rate job. Nice guy, too. All around, I'm impressed. He did a tiny bit of engraving on the butt strap on them, too. Looks good. I like the freehand work.

He Engraved my alias on the backstrap of my pistols. Like the Marshal said, done freehand. I saw a few of the othe pieces he had egraved while there. Does beautiful work!

Muy gracias to all the folks who have responded thus far!!!

Strangely enough, even though I have been playin' the CAS game for over a decade, I've never had any of my guns worked over by a gunsmith.

And, I've certainly never sent my guns out-of-state to be worked on by someone.

I change springs and do whatever home-gunsmitihin' needs to be done, my ownself.  But, I sure have handled some pards' guns that have been worked over, and they are as smooth as silk.  Mine ain't, but they ain't bad, neither.

Mebbeso, after HOW, I'll send a pair of my pistolas to Texas Jack.  He sure is gettin' some fine endorsements here.

Thanks, amigos y amigas!!

Pinto, you might call him and find out if he will be there at HOW. He travels around the west a lot. You might be able to hook up with him at a shoot. He is sometimes so busy he is in his tent until late at night fixin' and engraving guns. Just go for the engraving if your shooters work fine.

Digging up an ancient thread I know.  But thought some one here might know.  Is Texas Jack still alive and working the big matches?

edit as I found this:
"12-02-2010,
Default In Memorial: Master Gun Engraver Frank Lehman
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just found out gun engraver/gunsmith Frank Lehman died six weeks ago. He might not be well known but he was a very prolific engraver specializing in Colts mostly. "

I have a pair of guns I think he might have engraved.  Anyone care to comment on the possibility?
These were done at EOT in '95, '96, '97.  Thanks for the help!
