litl rooster, in mid-evil days the only one's with 'mater's were Indians in South America.

The old story of 'maters being poison seems to be a food leagnd like an urban one, they were only considered good to eat if cooked though.

Maters is related to Night Shade which IS poisonous. I just had mine in a salad. Mine are those little Romas, only two plants in flower pots. Soil here is terrible, too much coal and clay. Had to dump 6 yards of topsoil to get a decent lookin' yard and puttin in shrubs and stuff was a real chore. Bunch of them didn't make it.............Buck 8) ::) :o ;)
I might be slow, but I'm mostly accurate.....

Delmonico

Thats what the all say is they didn't eat them because of the relationship, one problem Taxanomatry as a science really developed about the 1750's so what was their excuse before that. ::)

"Sides that tobbaco is also of the nightshade family and it didn't take long for them to take to that.

I've fould dozens of "Food Legands" they are as bad as "Urban Legands."
