From my dad, he said "son, I just want you to know that if you ever get in trouble and get put in jail,  jail will be the safest for you because you sure don't want to see me."

I think this may be why I got into LE.
I ain't often right but I've never been wrong.

My dad always told me to do my best at those things that matter.  "Neither God or man can hold it against you if you do your best and fail."

Before my dad died I asked him what advice I could give a class of law enforcement students I was asked to speak to..  He thought awhile and said, "Tell em' make work play and you can play all day."  My dad worked for 28 yrs on the street and he was the third generation in our family.  I am the fourth and one of the students was my daughter who will be the 5th generation, (consecutive) in our family.  I guess my point is, it's a great job with a great pension etc, and with over a 100 years of experience it all boils down to-------it's fun!

1. Treat everyone as you want to be treated.  2. Try to make everyone you make contact with, thank you.
It was tough to do that many a time, but I think it saved me from a number of fights.

I got ALOT of good advice, so narrowing it down to "the best" is hard...

I'm 3rd generation Lawdawg in my family... Grandpa once told me... "When you are working, you are getting paid, and you don't get paid to loose a fight."

Dad once told me, "When you are working and contacting people, be polite, be professional, but be prepared to have to kill anyone you contact."

From the Army: Keep your eyes, ears and bowels open and your mouth shut.

From the prisons:

Treat everybody fair, act honourably, when the brown stuff hits the fan, you will have to get to the gate. How you acted in the past will determine how successful you have been in the past.

Check it before you leave it.

A bit of advice I worked out and handed out and have been given feedback on the fact that it turned out to be good advice:

Don't answer questions that haven't been asked! ;D
