Hi everyone.  I was thinking about getting an Uberti Winchester 73 in 357 Mag.
My question is, will 38 special ammo cycle flawlessly in this rifle, or do I have to use 357?
Thanks in advance for your help.

'73's made ten years ago or so had some problems with .38's, but all recent manufactured guns have more of a bevel on the bottom of the carrier and handle all but the very shortest of .38's with no problems whatsoever.  Go for it.

Howdy, Rusty. If you get a Uberti Win. 73 in 357 Mag. you can use .38 Sp. The differents between 38 Sp. and 357 Mag. is the length of the brass. The bore is the same.
I have a Uberti Winchester 73 Golden Boy only for 38 Sl., so I can't use 357 Mag. But it is a very nice gun. Good Luck with your choice.

I just recently purchased a Cimarron '73 in .357 with the 16" bbl.  With the Snakebite Big Lube or the Lyman 358665 you can use 38 sp. cases with no feeding problems.  It seems the OAL with the crimp groove in these two designs work well in this rifle.
I ain't often right but I've never been wrong.

Howdy form the Office of Judge Walker
I have been using an 1873 win for around 15 yrs.. It will load 38sps with 15 rounds, but there is a problem; when you cycle the first two shoots the spring will try to load 2 at a time. The rifle is great and has smooth action using both 357 or 38s and I have load both at same time and found no problems except with the over load. I reload my ammo with 125 lead w/3gran and mag primer. I also use the same rifle for deer hunting but with heavy mag loads.
