After watching just about every frame of Lonesome Dove I managed to get a pretty good picture of Gus's Walker holster.  Here is my version of it along with my new Walker. I darkened it a tad.  I like it better.

Is it a crossdraw?  I thought that Gus wore a crossdraw.

yes it is a crossdraw.  I'm left handed.  I want to thank you Tommy Tornado, for sending me that picture.  It was invaluable in figuring out that holster.

I like that one a lot. It looks really great in its simplicity. Nice work.

Thanks Marshall. the used motor oil worked great, but it's hard getting rid of the smell.  I'll stick to more conventional oils.  I learned a lot making this holster.

Not a problem.  I made my own but I made it more like a traditional Slim Jim.  Couldn't bring myself to have the 2 inches or so of barrel hanging out of the end.

Nice one, Tommy. The light leather looks good on the Slim Jims. I made a pair of them in black to prefect the design. Now I'll have to make a good pair encorporating the changes I want.

Thanks Marshall.  Sometimes I leave them naked or I will dye them after constructing them, especially if they are a slim jim.  Sometimes it is difficult to dye a holster with loops after it is all put together and get all the nooks and crannies.

Yeah, I usually dye all the pieces and then assemble it. Then all you need to do is touch up the edges along the stitch line.
