Extra C&B cylinders for Ruger Old Army?

Ruger don't want to sell 'em.  I have a pair of ROAs and would shoot C&B more often if I could get extra cylinders so that I could pre-load them before the match.

Sam'l Remington aka Walt Kirst makes the very fine very high quality Kirst Konverter cylinders to shoot 45 Colt with the ROA.  I  have a pair of 'em and they are excellent.  I'll shoot 'em this season and I know I'll have a great time with them.

I'd also like to shoot C&B with those same great guns, but with only one cylinder per gun, loading is too slow for me to take part in Possse duties and rachet jaw with all the pards.  I don't want to spend a lot of time fussing with loading when I could be visiting, telling lies and tall tales and helping out with posse duties.

So, I asked Walt if he could make some aftermarket C&B cylinders for the ROAs of the same high quality as his fine Kirst Konverter cylinders.  His answer was "Yes, but only if there were sales for at least 150 cylinders per year".  Setup costs and such are too expensive to do a shorter run.

So ROA shootn' Pards, if Walt makes cylinders for the ROA, how many would buy one or two?  The price would run  about $200 each.  If it flys, it would initially be a subscription order.

Let 'er flicker.  I'd take at least two.  Any other takers?

Well thats strange cuz last year I called em up and they gave me the price and I shipped the OA minus MY cylinder and it took bout 3 weeks to get the gun back, Cost was about $110,00 + - I also bought extra nipples, Don't remember if new cyl came with nios or not. The cyl does have to be fitted and perhps that is why they would not ship you one. I have had my ROA 30 years and always
had great luck with the parts dept
I did tell them that my old cyl. was lost in a river and needed a new one.

That's a fair price and I think, from your telling, it mite accumulate a lot of ROA cylinders ;D.

My experience was that Ruger didn't care to sell the cylinders.  If they do, then Walt won't have to make them.  Thanks for posting.

Then, PUK, we'd have to package it in a wood crate that looked like a gun.  It wouldn't shoot, but ya cud "salvage" the cylinder. . .

Howdy Pard!
I, too, sent Ruger my ROA about a year ago or so, and had them fit two new C&B cylinders to it.  Don't remember the price, but they didn't baulk in the slightest to the request. Yes, they needed the pistol for fitting and timing.  The cylinders work perfectly.

Dick Dastardly

Thanks Sacramento Johnson,

I just tried to buy a replacement part.  They're not sold that way.  Mayhaps you found the answer.  I do like the idea of pre-loading extra cylinders so I don't have to slow the match down and so I kin take part in posse activities.  If you find out what your price was, I'd be interested to learn it.

Thanks,

Thanks Manyirons,

That's the best price I've ever heard of.  Does he need the guns for "custom" fitting?
