Yeah, CONGRATULATIONS! You can't ever have too many Remmies. ;D

I am anxiously awaiting arrival of the same gun, except with the white (not stainless) finish. I keep bouncing back and forth between "I'm converting it to .38 Special" and "I'm ordering Treso nipples and leaving it cap & ball."

Decisions, decisions ...

Well, my gun arrived but I'm disappointed. The fit of the triggerguard to the frame is terrible. The frame is the main problem--it is not square with the rear of the triggerguard. In fact, the frame is cut crooked! I compared my Uberti to a Traditions (Pietta) Remmie in a local store and the Pietta was near perfection; the triggerguard was mated beautifully to the frame. Also, my new Uberti is badly scratched--both the cylinder and the loading lever web. I noticed the same thing on my Cimarron (Uberti) stainless SAA. It was so badly scratched (and the steel so terribly soft) that I sold it. What's up with Uberti? Am I just unlucky? Most people praise them but I've yet to own a good one.

I might take a chance and order another Uberti, hoping for a better one, or I might try Pietta.

You may want to see if they'll replace that one. I've bought 5 ubertis over the years. They all were first-class pistols. I still have four. On the other note, I bought an EMF (Uberti-made) 1875 pistol that was pure garbage. Every time I picked it up, something broke. The finish looked like it was done with a rake, blued right over what looked like 220 grit sand marks. I was never happier than the day I sold it. Still, it's the only EMF I've ever heard of that was not a great quality gun. Obviously they blow it now and then.

My dealer won't take it back without a lot of grumbling and complaining 'cause it's "only a cosmetic problem." So I guess I'll have to sell the gun to someone who doesn't care about the poor triggerguard fit. Mechanically the gun seems fine. Pretty tight, actually.

I tried to order another one from Midway but it seems they won't ship it to New York!

I probably need to drive down to Taylor's and pick out a good one. Then they'll be no risk.

I wonder if Taylor's gets a different grade of Uberti than Midway does. I agree with you about heading down there and hand selecting one. There's no substitute for holding one before you lay down your payment. I'd have done that if I was closer, although everything I have from Taylors has been good.

I would email Uberti and then take it back to your dealer. he has to make it good or he'll not be selling Uberti's much longer. MAKE HIM RETUN IT or exchange it for a good one! You don't have to buy from him again...do You? You paid good money for a good pistol. Ask the jerk what he would do if it were his! I know you New Yorkers can make a point, Don't let the Dealer walk all over you.

Sorry for the rant, but it Thouroughly P.O.'se when a dealer does that crap.

;D

I have to report that my new Uberti shoots great, and has no problems that I can see..
I'm sorry for your bad one; hope you don't give up on Uberti altogether...Your dealer should make it right for you....
Good shootin' to you............

Well, my dealer's wife (who actually owns the business) is a very difficult person. Also I bought the Remington with $250 credit from a prior trade-in. She tried to charge me NY sales tax on the full price ($260) instead of on the full price minus my trade-in credit ($10), which is the proper way to do it. When I complained, she got huffy.

Don't worry, I'm not dealing with them again.

I'm phoning Taylor's tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully they'll let me drive down and pick out a better one.

By the way, how do you re-insert the cylinder in an 1858? I removed it by bringing the hammer to half-cock and rotating out the cylinder clockwise to the right. But when I try to get it back in, it bangs against the little hand that juts out. Do I need to drop the hammer first?

I too have owned Uberti's and own several now.
I buy from Taylors or Cimmaron ,I've never been disappointed.
I bought 10 Uberti Remingtons for a movie I was proping, everyone of them were high quality.
Same with Uberti Colts and Long guns.
I'd contact Uberti USA in NJ.

Cylinder basically goes back in the same way as it comes out.  With the pistol at half cock, insert from the right hand side and rotate clockwise to engage the hand.
