Bolt won't hold cylinder on Uberti Regulator

I hope my terms are correct. I am assuming the bolt is the piece that holds the cylinder in place, this being operated by the movement of the cam on the hammer.

I took my Regulator apart to smooth it up a little. I have had it about 2 years and it has started feeling "gritty" when I work the action. I did a slight polish on any rubbing surfaces with a fine sandpaper (per a website someone directed me to on another thread). I put it back together and it was a little better.

But after working the action a little, I noticed that with the hammer down, the cylinder will turn about half way to the next chamber. When the gun is cocked, the cylinder is tight, but as the hammer drops, the bolt drops just a touch, and the cylinder wiggles out of position a bit.

I took the gun apart and checked things out. It appears that when the hooked end of the bolt is traveling over the cam, the bolt holds the cylinder. But when the hook falls over the cam, the bolt drops and loses good contact with the cylinder. I didn't do any polishing on the cam and only polished the sides of the bolt a touch where they might come in contact with the frame.

Can anyone help me out? Even if it's just enough to get the gun operating well enough so I can pawn it towards a better revolver...

Thanks!

Most likely culpirt is the two prong spring that holds the bolt in place.  Make sure it is lined up right, not binding and not bent or broken.

You were correct.  I took the gun apart again and the spring was wedged tight against the frame.  I was flexing the spring inbetween my thumb and finger and the spring broke in two.  It must have been weak or cracked and has lost its spring.

Thanks for your help.

I'd replace it with a Wolff wire spring. It will hold up better than the standard flat stamped springs.
