Pistolero

Hello,
A while back I read a very interesting article by Phil Spangenburger about the famous Border Shifts such as what Josey Wales did when the Mountain men told him to hand over his guns, butt first. Wasn't it neat how he switched his guns, in a twinkle of the eye, from butt first to in his hands firing?!? The article covered several types of bordershifts, etc., with some drawings, pics, and/or diagrams of the different tricks. But now I can't find my magazine and I can't even remember what mag it was in. I was wondering if any of you might know of a link to where I can go read it again? I would like to print it out.  Any info would be appreciated.
Take care,
Pistolero

I think it was in guns & ammo. I got to dig it up and then I'll let you know.

By the way the move you described is called "road agent spin" not "border shift".

I think Thumbs is right, IIRC a border shift is pulling two pistols, emptying the strong-side one, then tossing them both into the opposite hand and continuing to fire. Something that would guarantee me a dropped gun, BTW  ;D

You got it right Frenchie, that is the "border shift".

Thanks y'all. Those moves are neat and useful.

Greetings, Pistolero;

I remember that article.  As I recall, it was printed in an issue of "True West" magazine about a year ago.  When I get home this evening, I will look through my back issues, and give you the exact citation.

Even though they don't generally archive their articles online, you might want to have a peak at True West's website: http://www.truewestmagazine.com -- lots of interesting info -- and you can order back issues of most of their recent magazines.

The "Road Agent" spin is also called the "Curly Bill" spin or shift.  I believe that "Tombstone" got it correct when Curly Bill used that manuever to kiil Fred White.

Fred White himself said it was an accident before dying.

Ok. Found the article. It's called "The secrets of fancy sixgunning" and it's in the May 1994 issue of GUNS & AMMO.
I don't know where you can find it online. But, if you wish, send me a private message with your email and I'll send you a scan from my issue.
I can only send it next Monday though.

Pistolero

Hey Thumbnails,
Thanks a million for postiing the pics/articles. I downloaded them. Now lets hope they print out clearly so I can read them. I have been strapping on my "Hawgleg" and practicing some of these moves. I feel like a little boy who's just discovered a new way to play with his toy!
Thanks,
