That as an long time reenactor, I applaud you guys for your emphasis on historical accuracy.  Maybe someday there will be a NCOWS posse here in NC.

Thanks MAC,

Looking at your post, I can say that there is a simple remedy for you not being an NCOWS member.  Also, it only takes 3 members to form a posse.  What part of Carolina are you in?  I spent 7 years in Jacksonville and Greenville.  Wife's family is still in Newport.

I live in Charlotte, more or less in south-central NC..lived in Southport on the coast for several years with my grandparents.

I'm not sure I have the internal stuff to form a NCOWS posse, myself.

Same thing here... I've yet to meet a NCOWS member here in FLA.

There's boat load of SASS and some shooters that are not affiliated at all.

I'm also a long time reenactor (28 years as mounted cavalry)
Also working in Film industry (many Historical films)
I enjoy the historical aspect of NCOWS.

Now I am just a regular old member, and hold no office, but I have just proposed to some folks to build a website that would list the location of our members via their state of residence.  I know we have many members sprinkled across the entire country....also, the Grand Army of the Frontier is in the process of building an NCOWS posse to help bring in those interested in portraying a period Military Persona.  US Scout out of Virginia is leading that effort.  NCOWS has members all over the country...Many of them are not affiliated with any posse and I think we can do more to help change that...

Major Matt said it well.  We have many members who are not affiliated with a Posse.  Many will tell you that the magazine alone is worth the price of membership.  Some people like US Scout, who the Major mentioned (although I think he's actually from Maryland) joined initially because NCOWS stood for what they thought W&CAS (Western & Cowboy Action Shooting) should be.  They never thought that they would de ever attend a NCOWS function.  Well US Scout attended at least one of not both of the GAF shoots and was at last week's convention.

NCOWS isn't for everyone.  If just shooting old style guns as fast as you can is what you like than we aren't the organization for you.  But if shooting those guns and trying to recapture some of what our 19th Century forefathers did then NCOWS is just the ticket  We don't require the use of black powder loads but more and more of us are choosing to go that route so we can get even closer to experiencing the problems that a 19th century Shootist did..

We sure would welcome you to the fold and for starting a Posse check out the "sticky" at the top.  it's really pretty simple.
