I called Cimarron last Monday & was told "possibly in Sept. & only in .45 Colt", but I sent an e-mail and they said next year!  :'(   Go figure.

Is this design similar to those first ASM-made conversions?....Buck 8) ::) :-\
I might be slow, but I'm mostly accurate.....

The 2nd model 1860 used an in-the-hammer firing pin, with an open view recoil shield (no collar over cylinder) and the original 1860 profiled barrel.

I think that is what the ASM was styled/designed after, but I have never held an ASM long enough to get a good evaluation of it.

I liked the looks of those ASM's,just didn't like their QC. Almost got one of the '61 Navy's with a 5" barrel, what a beautiful piece. Good thing someone else got it though, it kept getting homesick...........Buck 8) ::) :o

I am checking with my FFL to see if I can get on a list. I have been anxiously looking for R&D to bring out their kits thinking it would be cheaper than buying one already manufactured. But with Cimarron coming out with one, I figure the quality will be good and will probably be more correct to the real thing than one of the kits. Also I would be reluctant in cutting the loading port anyway. Is it true they will only be available in 45? Just remembered that being mentioned. That may affect my decision on getting one.

Major 2

45 ... I think so at least the first ones....

Frankly , I gave up on R&D they quoted me $890- $1100 on my pistol, and a long wait ( that's for them to do it.)

Is that a 2nd model for real.  I can't see the top of the ring to tell if it has the sight or not.  Also the shadow around the cylinder is also deceiving from the picture.

If it is yours it sure is nice.

Not Mine
here's the skinny

Colt 1860 Army-Richards 2nd Model conversion to .44 Colt, 8" barrel, serial #184526. Re-nickeled and retains about 85% or more of that finish. The trigger guard was left brass. Nice cylinder scene, all matching numbers except for the wedge, very clear, sharp markings. Mellow, carved, one-piece ivory grips. It is rare to see a second model Richards built on a revolver with frame and back strap cut for shoulder stock. Strong rifling with the typical pitted bore. The mechanical condition of this revolver is perfect, it feels like a new Richards conversion must have! Overall refinished fine.

If first ones are 45, which does mot make since since 45 was not avaible when these were made, will there be a cylinder for purchase later to switch to 44Colt? I know this is probably a stupid question but had to ask. All my guns are in 44Colt and want to stay with that.

Pappy Hayes

Cimarron has the 2nd model Richard's on their web site now. Nice looking gun. But it is in 45Colt only. I am kind of disappointed in them as they did not stay with the usual accuracy in reproduction of old west guns. I will have to think hard on whether I will order one or not. I sent them an email asking the possibility of a 44Colt version being made. I will put the answer here when I get one.

I wonder if the standard cylinder from the 3rd model Cimm. will substitute into this newer 2nd model Cimm..  I think VTI sell replacement Uberti 44Colt conversion cylinders. Yes heeled or hollow base bullet would have to be used, just like the originals

I think the decision was strictly the fact that most conversion being bought (R&D/Kirst) are in the 45 cal and possibly Cimm has statistic as to how many 45 to 44 they sell.  Maybe!!

All mine are in .44 Colt as well, BUT remember, the original .44 Colt was actually a heel based cartridge so the groove diameter was the same as a .45 Colt, i.e. approx. .454. I just hope that it's able to chamber .45 S&W. I'd agree the reason for .45 Colt is marketing as probably 95% of lever guns today for CAS are .45 Colt or .357/.38. I just hate to start casting for another caliber.  :'(

Fox Creek Kid

Another idea!! Have the throats on a RM .44 Colt cylinder reamed out and you could shoot it on this gun with real .44 Colt heel based bullets!  ;D
